Former President Donald Trump announced that Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) will be his vice presidential running mate in 2024.
“After much consideration and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have determined that the person best qualified to serve as Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the great state of Ohio,” Trump said. he wrote in Monday’s Truth Social post.
“J.D. served our country honorably in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a graduate of Yale Law School, where he was editor of The Yale Law Journal and president of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, Hillbilly Elegy, became a major bestseller and a movie because it championed the hardworking men and women of our country. J.D. had a highly successful business career in technology and finance, and now, on the campaign trail, he will be firmly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American worker and farmer of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and far beyond,” Trump added.
As vice presidential candidate, Trump said Vance “will continue to fight for our Constitution, support our troops and do everything in his power to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
Trump added: “Congratulations to Senator JD Vance, his wife Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!”
The former president’s announcement came just after 2 p.m. Central Time on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trump arrived in Milwaukee on Sunday, just a day after he was grazed by a single bullet in the upper right ear during an unsuccessful assassination attempt on his life during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Vance was only if extra hours of security following the failed attack on his Cincinnati home, which sparked rumors he would be tapped as Trump’s vice presidential running mate.
