Rep. Jim Jordan warns that the left wants “pure political power” along with court packing, which will lead to a rigged system

On Thursday night, in lightweight of the Democratic plan to pack the U.S. Supreme Court, Republican Jim Jordan (R-OH) spoke to Townhall about what he stressed is a “take away of power from Democrats” and a “terrible idea.”

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) i Representatives Jerry Nadler and Mondaire Jones, both Democrats from New Yorkintroduced provisions increasing the number of judges of the Tribunal from nine to 13.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) she said she wouldn’t do it bring the legislation to a vote in the House, but Rep. Jordan wasn’t buying it. He proposed that the executive order recently announced by President Biden “stacks up in front of the Court, I guess, and then they do it” once the commission announces its findings.

Now, as to whether the legislation will pass or not, Rep. Jordan proposed that “it’s about the filibuster. If we can keep the filibuster, if Sen. [Kyrsten] Sinema and Sen. [Joe] Manchin is true to his word, I think we’re OK.”

As I have written extensively, two Democratic senators have strongly supported keeping the filibuster, and perhaps that is what holds it together.

But the key word is “if.” Because “if we get rid of the filibuster,” the congressman said, “we’re potentially in trouble.”

When it comes to this “trouble,” Rep. Jordan is referring to Democrats having “complete control over the federal government” and countless other institutions. The congressman also touched on similar comments he made during an appearance yesterday on Fox News’ “Hannity.”

Rep. Jordan recalled that the “left” he refers to “is in control [Democratic] party” is “completely focused on gaining power” and “the only thing they don’t control is the federal courts.” And again, that’s why we need to keep the filibuster, because that’s how Democrats “will gain their leftist ideology.”

The stern concern was that, with Democrats taking power, elected members of Congress were unable or unwilling to understand how our Constitution worked, what the three branches of government were, and that elections had consequences.

As we know, “the founders understood that checks and balances were needed to protect liberty, to protect liberty,” Rep. said. Jordan, back to how many institutions the left controls. This includes the White House, the House of Representatives and the Senate. “It’s not enough for them,” warned Rep. Jordan. “Now they want to control the Supreme Court, and they can’t unless they manipulate it and change the rules.”

Earlier on Thursday, Reps. Jones and Jordan had a viral exchange when Rep. Jordan asked whether court packing counted as infrastructure. Congressman Jones mentioned this briefly, half-jokingly but still sticking to his original argument, during this morning’s press conference in front of the Supreme Court, the very institution he and his colleagues are trying to destroy by transforming it forever.

As expected, Republican unity in opposing court closure legislation will be “strong,” Republican Jordan said, and the congressman stressed that “we understand” what’s at stake.

One Republican response to legislation to close the Court came from Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA), who introduced an amendment that Rep. Jordan said Townhall supported.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) also introduced an amendment provided to Townhall by his office on Thursday night that would simply seek to keep nine justices permanently on the Court. “The Supreme Court must faithfully interpret the Constitution. We cannot allow it to fall victim to partisan attempts by far-left radicals to package it,” Mr Biggs said in a statement. “This desperate power grab by Democrats will only further divide our Nation. “I will not advocate a ‘supreme coup’ of our highest court.”

Democrats say there is no requirement for the Court to have nine justices. Professor Mike Rappaport from the University of San Diego he argued in November that its constitutionality may raise doubts.

Regardless, the amendment is therefore a necessary move to put an end to such an undemocratic move once and for all.

Another topic for discussion is that this is not a precedent. However, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed his Judicial Procedure Reform Act of 1937, it was “met [with] immediate opposition” and by Barbara A. Perry“Congress and the people viewed FDR’s ill-conceived proposal as an undemocratic seizure of power.” President Joe Biden, who as a candidate and now as sitting president has refused to tell Americans what he really thinks about court packing, called it a “dumb idea” during a 1983 Senate Judiciary hearing.

Rep. But Jordan also wanted to strike a more bullish note, emphasizing the power and importance of state governments, including in his home state of Ohio, where the state legislature voted to limit the governor’s powers. He also praised Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in Florida.

The congressman was also popular earlier Thursday for his viral exchange with Dr. Anthony Fauci, who appeared before the House subcommittee on the coronavirus crisis.
