Over the weekend, I had a very long discussion with a friend who had previously held very high positions in the Democratic Party. A friend who strongly supported Hillary Clinton.
A friend who is also rational, pragmatic, and able to think for himself.
Naturally, much of this discussion has focused on President Trump and his first weeks in office. A friend of mine said something that would shock most media outlets and much of the Democratic Party: “The Democrats in power behind the scenes, whose job it is to win the 2018 election, are terrified of President Trump. Not because they believe the hateful rhetoric of the far left, but rather because they realize that he is provoking the Democratic Party and its allies to show that they are the party of intolerance, and that his populist message is reaching a larger and larger audience. A message that will continue to alienate working-class Democrats and union voters to the point that the midterm elections will become a nightmare for Democrats.”
My friend couldn’t have been more right.
If anyone in the corrupt media, pundits or leftist academics were to remove the blinders of hatred, rage, bias, partisanship and wishful thinking and look at the developing situation in a nippy, truthful and analytical way, they might come to the same conclusions.
Not because I was smarter than anyone else, but five weeks before the election I started emailing a few friends in the media and business world predicting that Donald Trump would “get at least 286 electoral votes, but ultimately 306 because he won Pennsylvania.”
At least for me, the reason I came to this conclusion started about a year before I made that prediction. That was when—the year before—I heard from a working-class Democrat friend from Massachusetts and a very conservative Republican friend from Florida, who were both saying the same thing, independently of each other: “You know, this Trump guy is starting to speak to me.” He spoke to them not because they necessarily believed everything he said, but rather because, as Americans living paycheck to paycheck, they had come to despise the entrenched establishments of their political parties and saw Donald Trump as their only hope for overcoming the status quo that was destroying their future and, more importantly, their children’s future.
Believing that millions of such voices were out there — no matter how much the liberal media and those entrenched institutions pretended they weren’t there — I simply did a state-by-state analysis and included working-class Democrats who had to put the welfare of their families ahead of yet another round of inevitably broken promises made by their party and their candidates.
Which states did Romney win in 2012? Which formerly blue states could swing to Trump because of this unrecognized working-class vote and blue-collar Democrats?
For me at least, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Ohio immediately jumped out at me. Of course, Hillary Clinton bragging about putting America’s coal miners out of work also affected the calculation.
Today, whether they are prepared to come out publicly or not, there are Democrats like my friend who are trying to make truthful policy predictions behind the scenes, based solely on common sense and facts and truths that are deliberately hidden by the mainstream media and far-left ideologues. These predictions show that President Trump is connecting with more and more working-class Americans.
A “class” — in case the far left doesn’t want to admit it — representing the extensive majority of the American people.
With the 2018 midterm elections quick approaching, pragmatic Democrats are beginning to realize that more and more working-class Americans support President Trump’s calls for greater national security, better border security, reasonable health care and keeping American workers in American jobs.
And these pragmatic Democrats are beginning to realize that the utopian, politically correct, something-for-nothing messages of the welfare state are really “fake news” and are falling on deaf ears because more and more people are not paying attention to them.
Moreover, far-left ideologues in the Democratic Party, the media, and their allies are well aware of this truth. That is why they are doing everything in their power to try to delegitimize and destroy President Trump just weeks into his presidency.
Common sense, independent thought, and truthful analysis say they will fail. Working class Americans have already discovered them.
