Playing defense when you should be playing offense

A Muslim gunman—the son of a Taliban-loving Afghan immigrant—kills 49 in a gun-free zone where most of the security has been disarmed after passing NICS background checks. Meanwhile, Barack Obama is racing to bring in unverifiable Syrian immigrants, including undoubtedly at least a few hundred terrorist inmates.

So how did Senate Republicans begin to defend this narrative?

Is it possible that anti-gun Sen. Chris Murphy realizes the stakes of creating a diversion in this potentially election-defining event while the Republican Party does not?

Make no mistake: the left has gone completely batshit crazy. The New York Times is now calling the gun lobby “complicit in terrorism”—and yet can’t understand why we won’t accept legislation that would only take guns away from people who are complicit in terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Senate Republican Party is rehashing its “soft gun control” strategy—promising to destroy the Second Amendment, but with less zeal than its opponents. And if you’re going to die in quicksand, it’s tough to overstate the importance of a snail-paced sinking.

I’ll cut John Cornyn, Chuck Grassley, and Ted Cruz some slack: Their “soft gun control” amendments are set to lose, while they give RINO Republicans like Kelly Ayotte and Pat Toomey “something to vote for.” And their strategy will probably work.

Nevertheless, the pro-Second Amendment community should support neither the Grassley-Cruz nor the Cornyn Amendment.

Cornyn’s “trigger” is exercising Second Amendment rights. Buying a truckload of fertilizer, explosives, or box cutters is fine.

Its “due process” provisions were written by anti-gun nutcase Frank Lautenberg in 1966 — and they only provide “due process” to people wealthy enough to spend $20,000 on a lawyer. And if you can’t afford it, the government can arrest and detain you, possibly indefinitely.

Now, some RINOs are talking about reaching a halfway “compromise” between Cornyn and Feinstein. If that were to happen, and Obama joined Republican senators and the NRA in singing “kumbaya” over the corpses of Second Amendment activists, the GOP could forget about the gun rights supporters who are delivering pro-gun states like Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado.

Von Clausewitz said, “Position is everything.” So instead of trying to fight on the left’s turf by offering half of the gun control that Feinstein and Murphy are spouting, the GOP might want to look at the successful gun control fight that I and Tom Delay’s genius, Tony Rudy, fought after Columbine.

We took Hollywood and the liberal establishment to court for their obvious role in inspiring the Columbine killers.

Similarly, Hillary Clinton should not be allowed to spew venom at her political opponents while avoiding mentioning the guilt of…

– the foreign policy pursued by her and Barack Obama, favoring ISIS (including the agreement with Iran);

– the failure of Florida’s Muslim community, Mateen’s father, who loved the Taliban, and his strangely noiseless wife, to raise the alarm;

-an immigration policy that even now allows Syrian terrorists to enter the US without proper vetting;

-anti-gun laws that were intended to prevent any of the 320 “victims” present at the Pulse club from defending themselves.

So — Republicans — think carefully before you empower your enemies and punish your friends. The “gun issue” turned the Senate over to the Republicans in 2014. It could do so again if the Senate Republican Party doesn’t work to demoralize and destroy it.
