“The Bible is an irreplaceable touchstone of history and culture,” Walters said press release unveiling of the mandate. “Without a foundational understanding of this topic, Oklahoma students cannot properly contextualize the foundations of our nation, which is why Oklahoma Education Standards ensure it is taught. This is not just an educational directive, but a key step in ensuring that our students understand the core values and historical context of our country.”
The Bible will be defined as “a relevant study of history, civilization, ethics, comparative religion, etc., and their significant influence on the founders of our nation and the fundamental principles of our Constitution,” the memo said.
