Two Ohio House Representatives voted against a bill that would have fined Attorney General Merrick Garland $10,000 a day for his refusal release of audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interviews with Special Counsel Robert Hur.
Representatives Dave Joyce (R-OH-14) and Mike Turner (R-OH-10) with Tom McClintock (R-CA-05) and John Duarte (R-CA-13), voted against this bill.
Last month, Republicans in the House of Representatives he voted to charge Attorney General Merrick Garland with contempt of court for refusing to comply with a request for audio recordings of Biden’s hearings interview with Hur.
Florida USA Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL-13) forced a vote of “inherent contempt” to emphasize Congress’s commitment to enforcing the law.
Joyce was lonely republican vote against holding Garland in contempt of Congress last month. Hill reported that Joyce said, “As a former prosecutor, I cannot in good conscience support a resolution that would further politicize our judicial system in order to score political points. The American people expect Congress to work for them, solve political problems and prioritize good governance. Enough is enough.”
After the failed attempt to pass this bill, Rep. Luna announced plans to re-run the vote when more members are present.
Moon he stated In Case X, “Today’s vote on my resolution of contempt of court and legislative appropriations bill failed to pass because of the absence of some Republicans. The overwhelming majority of the party supports this resolution, and it has already survived repeated attempts to kill it by Democrats. Our efforts were not in vain, and I thank all Members who fought with me to restore justice and order to our institutions. I have re-filed the resolution and will reconsider it in a few weeks when Congress returns to session and the Members return.”
“Attorney General Merrick Garland will pay and be held accountable for attempting to undermine our institutions. No one is above the law,” she said.
