Ohio lawmakers show strong support for President Trump amid assassination attempt

Ohio lawmakers expressed widespread support for former President Trump after assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The FBI identified the suspected shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The attack ended in the death of the former fire chief Corey Comparison and seriously wounded two other people before Crooks was killed by the U.S. Secret Service. Trump was shot in the ear and was taken from the scene after the shooting.

U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) issued a strong statement statement immediately after the shooting: “Today is not just an isolated incident. A central tenet of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. That rhetoric led directly to the attempted assassination of President Trump.”

Vance got a quick one reaction for a statement from Democrats who called criticism of the Biden campaign unfair.

Vance later reposted Trump’s statement, in which he said, “WE WILL NOT BE FEARED.” Vance captioned it, “Brave, united, and defiant. This is leadership.”

Republican Gov. Mike DeWine he said“Fran and I are praying for President Trump, his family, and our country.”

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) (pictured above, left) declared, “Political violence has no place in our democracy. It is completely unacceptable.”

U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno (pictured above, right) he said “God saved President Trump tonight so he could save this country.” Moreno also called out Senator Brown for his earlier statement “saying that President Trump and his supporters should ‘pay the price.’”

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH-04) published“God bless President Trump. Pray for his safety.” He later posted the following quote from Advantage:

At this moment, it is more essential than ever that we remain united and show our true character as Americans by remaining strong and determined and not allowing evil to win.”
