Navarro Defies RNC Speech After Being Released From Prison: ‘They Didn’t Break Me’

by Ben Whedon

Former White House adviser Peter Navarro voiced his opposition during a speech at the Republican National Convention after being released from prison on Wednesday.

Navarro served as director of the United States Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy during the Trump administration. This year, he served a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena issued by the House Jan. 6 Committee. The same day he was released from custody, he gave a speech to the RNC.

The former Trump adviser began his speech by joking about the “MAGA tattoo” he got in prison.

“Yes, I did walk out of a federal prison in Miami this morning,” he said. “I’m here with you in this beautiful city of Milwaukee. I have a very simple message for you. If they can come for me, if they can come for Donald Trump, be careful. They will come for you. If we don’t control our government, their government will control us.”

He then spoke about his sentence and the court proceedings, warning that the government can expect charges against ordinary Americans.

“This is how I ended up in prison. The legislature came for me. First. Your favorite Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, created your favorite committee, the sham January 6th Committee, which demanded that I violate executive privilege. What did I do? I refused,” he said. “The J6 Committee demanded that I betray Donald John Trump to save my own skin, I refused.”

“They robbed me of every possible means of defense, and then what, just like in Manhattan with Donald Trump, they threw me to the wolves of an anti-Trump jury and there, where the DC swamp is, they convicted me, they put me in jail. Guess what? They didn’t break me,” he declared.

“And this is what happens when politics fails, investigations and prosecutions begin. They did it to me. They’ll do it to Trump, but hear me out. They did it to Catholics, pro-lifers and parents, parents who simply stand up for their children at school board meetings,” he warned.

“And in Trump’s America, you didn’t have to worry about getting locked up for disagreeing with the government. I went to jail so you didn’t have to,” he declared. “I’m your alarm clock.”

At the end of his speech, he brought his fiancée on stage, praised her for sticking with him, and kissed her.
