A majority of voters want President Joe Biden to be replaced as the Democratic nominee after his performance in the debate on Thursday night, according to a Morning Consult poll released Friday.
After the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle, Biden’s performance left many essential questions Democrats trying to soften the blow. But even with damage control60% of voters, and even 47% of Democrats, said Biden should do it replaced as the Democratic candidate, according to vote.

Of voters who actually watched the debate, 63% believe Biden should be replaced, according to the poll. Of Democrats who watched the debate, 50% say they want Biden gone, while 62% of independents who watched the debate and 75% of Republicans agree.
This feeling was felt even in Upper rungs Democratic Party. Within 35 minutes of the debate, the top Democrats AND media publications began repeating calls to replace Biden entirely.
The New York Times editorial board on Friday called on Biden to drop out of the race, saying other Democratic leaders are better prepared to face former President Donald Trump in November.
Amid talk of replacing Biden altogether, 30% of Democratic voters said they thought Vice President Kamala Harris should be the modern nominee, according to the poll. Additionally, 20% believe the governor of California. Gavin Newsom should replace Biden, with 9% saying it should be Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Despite the rumors, Newsom has repeatedly downplayed questions about potential candidate for the 2024 elections.. After the debate, he dismissed questions about the possibility of Biden being replaced by Democrats in the presidential election interview from MSNBC.
“I will never turn my back on President Biden,” Newsom said. “I will never turn my back on President Biden, I don’t know any Democrat in my party who would.”
Since the debate, many leading Democrats who previously defended Biden’s mental acuity have now… he avoided commenting on the subject at all. For voters, Biden’s decline in mental acuity was obvious, especially after watching the debate.
Before the debate, 43% of voters said Biden was in good mental health, while only 41% said they thought he was well, according to the poll. Among debate viewers, the numbers worsened, with only 35% saying Biden was mentally well and 28% saying Biden was mentally well.
According to the survey, this trend has been reversed for Trump. 47% of voters said they were in good mental condition and 52% said they were in good health. After the debate, these numbers increased to 54% of viewers saying they were in good mental health, and 62% saying they were in good health.
According to the poll, 64% of voters said Biden was too elderly, while 78% of debate viewers said the same. For Trump, 42% of voters said he was too elderly, while only 45% of debate viewers agreed.
President Joe Biden’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
