A few weeks ago, you would have had to wonder if Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) suffered from dementia or if he believed the American voter… This stupid. You just can’t make this stuff up. The man who got a steroid injection into his campaign for saying he would confiscate guns said in October that he wasn’t proposing that at all. Yes, we all heard you, Beto — whose real name is Robert Francis O’Rourke and whose blood is as Latino as mine. And I don’t have any.
He said: “of course it is” will take your AR-15, AK-47, or any firearm the left finds terrifying—and that includes everyone. Bold strategy, Cotton. Bob not only made sure that every gun owner would vote against the Democrats next year, but he also gave Republicans endless ammo so they could torment the Democratic Party for a generation. Bob handed out the playbook. I mean, we always knew the left wanted to do this because they hate guns, the Second Amendment, freedom, and those who invoke their constitutional right to own a firearm. It’s a strategy for the long war. To destroy an enemy, you have to strip them of their cultural identity. Gun ownership is undeniably American. Those who value them tend to be rural, Republican, and certainly not woke. In short, it’s everything a Democrat hates about his countrymen. Here’s what Bob said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on October 16 that should give you a sore neck (via Political facts):
Of course you do, we’ll take your AR-15.

Sure, we’ll take your AR-15s, your AK-47s. We won’t let them be used against another American. Donate to our campaign. #DemDebate

“Just to be clear, I’m not talking about confiscating someone’s guns. But I think when it comes to weapons of war — AR-15s, AK-47s — they were designed and sold to the armies of the world to kill people on the battlefield, and there are over 16 million of them in America. And we saw the devastating impact they can have in Dayton, Ohio, or El Paso, Texas, or Odessa, right around where I live. They need to be bought back, or every single one of them is a potential tool of terror in this country.”
It’s nonsense. I’m not talking about confiscating people’s guns, but that’s what’s happening. There are a lot of fact-checking opinions on PolitiFact. They’re usually written by left-wing crooks. They have long analyses that gloss over obvious Democratic lies. When you explain things, you lose politically. The same goes for so-called fact-checking. In this case, I’ll bow out, albeit with a small caveat. It’s just too big a lie to cover up. There’s no way to polish that crap, so maybe that’s a factor.
If you go further Bob’s website now a commemoration of his failed presidential bid, you’ll find not only proposals for gun registries but — shocker — a proposal calling for gun confiscation:
Implement a national buyback program for banned assault weapons and handguns. Weapons of war belong on the battlefield, not in our communities or on our streets. Beto calls for a mandatory buyback program for assault weapons and a voluntary buyback program for handguns. To create a funding stream for buybacks, Beto will increase excise taxes on gun manufacturers and fines on gun dealers, and allow the ATF to purchase any banned assault weapons presented to the agency. Those who fail to participate in the mandatory buyback of assault weapons will be fined.
Yes, we all know what a compulsory buyout means; it’s a confiscation. Period. So that’s just a lie. I mean, even CNN he was skepticalwondering in particular whether mass shooters—also known as criminals—would even agree to this so-called buyout. What Beto suggested was unconstitutional. Put another way, he was willing to pass a law to confiscate the private property of millions of law-abiding Americans. Some law enforcement officials were adamant that they would not enforce such a sloppy law. Police organizations found the proposal laughable. It would certainly require officers to go door-to-door to ensure law enforcement. That may be popular in deep blue, non-majority America, but this desperate attempt to stay in the race a few weeks longer may cost him more than just a failed bid for the White House. Bob is still a young guy. He could remain in public life in another capacity, namely another U.S. Senate race in Texas. Now that he has revealed himself as the emperor of gun confiscation, that door, too, may be closed (via Vanity fair):
…in Texas, political strategists are closely monitoring the fallout from O’Rourke’s self-immolation. After nearly defeating Sen. Ted Cruz last year, local Democrats were urging the former El Paso congressman to try again against Sen. John Cornyn, who is up for reelection in 2020. Forget about the presidential campaign, the thinking went, and help Democrats take back the Senate.
But now some wonder whether Beto has squandered a chance to make a successful return home. “When people start talking about mandatory buybacks for a variety of reasons, it quickly becomes very personal to them,” said Republican strategist Liz Mair, especially in the Lone Star State. “For those who are motivated [by gun control]are really passionate about it,” she added. “The problem is there aren’t enough of them to actually make it work for Beto, and there are a hell of a lot of people who are very, very motivated and on the other side of the issue.”
Zac McCrary, a Democratic consultant who has conducted several Texas polls over the years, disagreed. The gun buyback policy is “a little to the left of the Texas electorate,” he admitted. “But I would also say that Beto’s position in the mainstream today is closer to where Texas is on guns than where most Republicans are — where John Cornyn is, where [Texas governor] Greg Abbott is — when they can’t cobble together support for something basic like background checks, something basic like red flag laws. So Beto shouldn’t be judged in a vacuum.”
[…]
“When people ask how Republicans have won so many blue-collar seats over the years, the answer is almost always guns,” said Republican strategist Rick Wilson. “Democrats were smart enough to say in the old days, ‘Nobody’s going to take your guns away, [and] Beto, like a big fool, betrayed the game.
I’m not complaining that Beto fell like the Hindenburg. That’s one less threat we have to deal with, since he lost to Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 by just three percentage points. That’s too close for comfort. Now even gun-owning Democrats in Texas might not even consider voting for him if Beto throws his hat in the ring to face Sen. John Cornyn. One-season stars are common in the music industry. They’re common in politics, too. Where’s Wendy Davis? And dare I say, Sarah Palin. But all is not lost for Beto. There are local jobs, like dog catcher and tax collector, that he could probably secure, or he could just live off his wife’s money.
Katie mentioned that he would be a great fit as a national spokesperson for Moms Demand Action/Everytown.
