It’s abundantly clear that Ted Cruz is not a popular guy in Washington — based on extreme examples like Senator Lindsey Graham’s joke about how to avoid punishment for murdering himto delicate statements expressing dissatisfaction with the Texas senator, such as former President George W. Bush’s statement that “he just doesn’t like the guy.”
Enter John Boehner, the former House Speaker whose recent comments about Cruz suggest he not only dislikes him –he hates him.
When Boehner was asked about Cruz at Stanford University on Wednesday, he reportedly grimaced with disgust before saying, “Lucifer in human form.”
“I have Democratic and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I’ve never worked with a more miserable son of a b***h in my life,” he added.
Boehner has described other GOP candidates as friends. In particular, the former speaker said he has played golf with Donald Trump for years and that they are “texting buddies.”
His friendship with Ohio Governor John Kasich, however, was somewhat more ambiguous.
“[Kasich] takes more effort out of me than all my friends … but he’s still my friend and I love him,” Boehner said.
Boehner said he would vote for Trump if he won the Republican nomination, but added he would not do the same if Cruz was nominated.
Cruz seized on those comments in his Twitter response on Thursday, portraying Boehner and Trump as part of the establishment.
Tell me again, who’s going to stand up to Washington? Trump, who’s Boehner’s “texting and golfing buddy,” or Carly and me? https://t.co/qvYPSaTEV7
