Cruz ‘shines’ as Hillary’s outburst reveals weeks of frustration

This is “Ted Cruz”time to shine” experts say this week. As Donald Trump is attacked by a relentless media and critics from both the left and right for his controversial statements on abortion, Cruz is running away from his rivals in the Wisconsin primary. Meanwhile, the Democratic race is becoming increasingly uncivilized as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders feel the strain of a narrowing contest.

Republican primaries

Donald Trump: Trump held an impromptu meeting with leaders at the RNC on Thursday afternoon, where they reportedly discussed the need for Republican unity. Party leaders apparently threatened to withdraw the 50 delegates Trump won in South Carolina for violating a GOP loyalty oath he signed in the fall. Meanwhile, Trump’s unfavorable ratings are on full display in a fresh Washington Post-ABC News poll. More than 50 percent of every demographic group gave him an unfavorable opinion. Perhaps most strikingly, seven in 10 female voters have unfavorable opinion from him. In the Wisconsin primary, he is a distant second, but he has a pretty significant lead New York.

Ted Cruz:Cruz is still going full throttle in Wisconsin. The latest polls show that 10 points before Trump. This week, the Texas senator warned RNC says changing convention rules would be a “terrible idea” if Washington officials changed them because voters would “revolt.” For now, the guidelines insist that the eventual nominee must win at least eight contests. Only Cruz and Trump meet that threshold.

Jan Kasich:Kasich is reminder Super PAC ad that calls Ted Cruz “Lying Ted,” Trump’s favorite nickname for the Texas senator. The PAC, which backs Kasich, was asked to remove the ad. But that doesn’t mean the Ohio governor is ready to be nice to Cruz. He accused the senator of having “no experience” to run on, while insisting that Trump is “not prepared” to be president.

Democratic primaries

Hillary Clinton unleash on the Sanders campaign this week. When confronted by a Greenpeace activist at a campaign event in Westchester, N.Y., on Thursday night about her alleged support for the fossil fuel industry, Clinton exploded furious, shouting that she was “so devastated” by the Sanders campaign’s “lies.” Is her sudden outburst the result of weeks of pent-up frustration with Sanders’s persistence in the 2016 race? Clinton and her team have essentially already handed Sanders the win in Wisconsin, yet she 12 points lead in New York.

Bernie Sanders held his first campaign rally in New York City on Thursday night, and it was packed. More than 15,000 people showed up to support the Vermont senator in the Bronx. With crowds like that, it’s no wonder Sanders is already anticipating win in upstate New York. Sanders had some of his own ammunition for Clinton this week, take shots at her for suggesting he wasn’t “serious” about women’s issues. Rosario Dawson also chimed in, telling Clinton, “shame on you.” Sanders has another celebrity crush, Susan Sarandon, who this week admitted her anger at Clinton runs so deep she doesn’t know if she would vote for her over Trump.
