Former President Barack Obama said Friday that he still supports his former deputy, President Joe Biden, despite his destitute performance during the first presidential debate on Thursday night.
Biden appearance in a television debate shocked many Democratic insiders, leaving some liberal leaders supposedly trying to find a replacement candidate who might have a shot at defeating former President Donald Trump in November. However, the White House maintains that Biden will remain in the race.
Obama acknowledged the president had a bad night but said the moral character and policy differences between Trump and Biden had not changed.
“There are some bad debate nights. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has spent his life fighting for ordinary people and someone who only cares about himself.” – Obama he wrote in a post on X. “Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will honestly give it to the American people – and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that and that’s why the stakes are so high in November.”
Obama was criticized at the time for his first presidential debate against challenger Mitt Romney, who was the GOP nominee, in 2012. Despite the destitute results, Obama was re-elected.
The White House tried to ignore criticism of the president’s actions, putting it down to a bad chilly, which explained the hoarseness in Biden’s voice. But the president also had difficulty arguing and often lost the thread.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom also remained committed to the president despite his last name he was floating as Biden’s potential successor, he claims on MSNBC that abandoning Biden would not be good for the country.
“We have to have this president’s support,” Newsom said. “He doesn’t turn his back on one performance. What party does that? … Democrats deliver. This president delivered. We have to do something for him right now.
