Earlier this month, we highlighted how businessman Bernie Moreno was engaging in a $2 million advertising campaign leading up to the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Ohio. Apart from advertisement introducing yourself for Ohioans, Moreno recently released an ad titled “Make That Happen” that highlights his focus on America First and his views on securing the southern border. The decision to unseat vulnerable Democratic incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown makes Ohio one of the biggest ticket-winning opportunities for Republicans, if not the best pick up opportunity.
“Bernie Moreno puts America first and will secure our southern border,” the narrator declares. Moreno himself appears in the ad, expressing concern that “we have a completely open border” and “drugs and human trafficking flow through our southern border.”
“The first thing we have to do is finish the wall,” Moreno continues, “and then let the U.S. military wipe out the drug cartels,” which he said “we have to put America first” to make that happen.”
Moreno he often emphasized he has his own immigration background, having been born in Colombia and legally immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 5. At the age of 18, he received American citizenship.
The announcement was shared on the Moreno X i account is also presented on your campaign website.
Our political leaders in DC have enabled and encouraged millions of undocumented migrants to take advantage of our asylum laws.
Securing our border means rejecting amnesty, reforming asylum laws so that they can only be applied for at a legal port of entry, ending fishing and release, ending… https://t.co/a7s5L4bbHC

“Ohioans are looking for an America First senator who will work with President Trump to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into our country. As a senator, Bernie will finish off President Trump’s wall, wipe out the drug cartels and put America first, always,” spokesman Conor McGuinness said in a statement about the ad.
Polls have consistently shown it to be a competitive race, forecasters say they currently consider it as “Throw”. Especially compared to 2022, the 2024 Senate map is believed to heavily favor Republicans. This applies both to places Republicans want to take over and to places they need to defend.
Both of Moreno’s ads focused primarily on former and potentially future President Donald Trump and the positive remarks he made about the candidate. Trump won Ohio in 2016 and 2020 by about 8 percentage points and is still considered a popular figure in the Buckeye State. Any support he gives, if he gives it, could make a huge difference. Last April, in a crowded primary, Trump endorsed incumbent Sen. J.D. Vance, who replaced retiring Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH).
