The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced last summer that the 2016 RNC convention would be held in Cleveland, Ohio. But on Thursday evening, a firestorm broke out. official dates:
The Republican National Committee has selected July 18–21 as the official date for the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
“I am pleased to announce that the Republican National Convention will begin on July 18,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “Having a convention in July is a historic success for our party and our nominee. The convention will be held significantly earlier than previous election cycles, allowing access to critical general election funds earlier than ever before to give our nominee a powerful advantage on Election Day.
“We are excited to continue working with our partners in Cleveland and can’t wait to showcase all that the city has to offer to our delegates and the world in 2016.”
This will probably be seen as a wise decision all the way around. For example, in 2012, the convention was not convened until almost Septembermaking it extremely challenging for a candidate to spend valuable resources on a general election when doing so would be most effective.
Meanwhile, the RNC will likely hold six to 12 debates before the presidential primaries, shortening total the number of debates has decreased by about half compared to 2012.
This is good news in every respect.
