On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) publicly complained about the “quality” of the GOP Senate candidates. He declared that a Republican majority in the US Senate was unlikely.
Over lunch at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, McConnell said that “I think the House is probably more likely to change its position than the Senate.” Why does he think the Republican Party won’t win a single seat in a year when Biden has destroyed everything from border security to the economy? He stated that “Senate races are just different, they are statewide. The quality of the candidate has a big impact on the result.”
What did he mean by “candidate quality”? He suggested that many Republican Senate candidates are too conservative, too aligned with President Donald Trump and too inclined to support Make America Great Again (MAGA) policies.
McConnell prefers establishment Republicans, moderate “country club” candidates who value the Deep State, bureaucracy, growing government and raising taxes. They’re just a little less willing to do it than their Democratic colleagues.
These Republicans are globalists and open border advocates who don’t care that millions of illegal immigrants have entered the United States during Biden’s term. These McConnell Republicans also do not oppose the government’s COVID-19 orders or attacks on our children in classrooms whose curriculum is sexualized and full of anti-American poison.
McConnell is 80 years venerable and has spent most of the last six decades of his life in Washington as a member of the Swamp. He began working in Washington, D.C. as a U.S. Senate intern in 1964 at the age of twenty-two. For the next twenty years, he held political positions in Kentucky and Washington before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1984.
No wonder McConnell supports moderate Republican candidates. He despised the Tea Party movement and truly hates anything related to MAGA and Donald Trump.
McConnell is the type of Republican who feels comfortable with U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) and members of the Bush family. He is the epitome of the party’s problem.
If he ends up becoming U.S. Senate Majority Leader, he will do nothing substantive to reform our government or advance the conservative goals promoted by the party’s grassroots. In fact, he’d rather be minority leader in the Senate with a smaller GOP delegation and no MAGA senators.
Republicans will never be able to rebuild our government and solve our problems with people like McConnell in leadership positions in the U.S. Senate.
No wonder President Trump complained to McConnell, fully understanding the threat he posed to the MAGA movement. McConnell doesn’t care because he has raised a huge amount of money for his Senate Leadership Fund (SLF).
The group has already made enormous ad purchases in several states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio. SLF has reserved the option of autumn elections $141 million in advertising in states such as Alaska, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
If Republicans win control of Congress in the midterm elections, GOP voters expect bold leadership in Washington to stop Biden’s unsafe policies from being implemented. For this ambitious agenda to be successful, the GOP must have mighty Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate.
Unfortunately, McConnell prefers timid, incremental policies that will not solve today’s chaos in the country. Worse still, one of his repeated habits is to support the Biden administration’s policies whenever possible. For example, McConnell voted for Biden’s wasteful $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and unnecessary gun control regulations.
McConnell also strongly supports Biden’s positions on the war in Ukraine and the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He strongly supported sending billions of dollars in aid to the Ukrainian government. McConnell recently said that “we all agree that the most important thing happening in the world right now is the war in Ukraine.”
No, Senator, we do not “all agree” with your focus on the war in Ukraine. In fact, one recent poll showed this 46% Republicans believed that the nation was sending too much support to Ukraine.
It’s not that grassroots Republicans are unsympathetic to the plight of the Ukrainian people, but they want our leaders to focus on the multitude of unresolved problems in our country.
McConnell’s interventionist views are directly at odds with President Trump’s focus on our country and our problems. Trump and the MAGA movement represent millions of Americans tired of the United States serving as the world’s policeman.
While McConnell and his Senate establishment colleagues want to finance a war on the other side of the world, they have no interest in an invasion from the south that overwhelms our border patrol.
While politicians of both parties are obsessed with war in Europe, our country is wide open to the unrelenting flow of powerful and illegal drugs like fentanyl that are killing Americans in record numbers. Fighting the fentanyl epidemic should be at the center of every politician’s attention. Unfortunately, most, like McConnell, are directing their energy elsewhere.
While McConnell worries about fighting the MAGA agenda and sending billions of dollars overseas, 2250 people in Kentucky died from drug overdoses last year. It represented 15% enhance compared to the previous year.
Tragically, Americans are dying in Kentucky and every other state because of Biden’s open borders policy. This should be a major rallying cry for Republicans in the midterms.
Beyond the border and the drug epidemic, Republicans should focus on our faint economy, rampant crime and our constitutional rights, which are under constant attack during Biden’s presidency.
Worse still, the Biden administration will hire 87,000 up-to-date Internal Revenue Service agents to harass the hard-working middle class.
Instead of complaining about the “quality” of conservative Republican candidates, McConnell should be concerned about the deteriorating “quality” of Americans’ lives and how to defeat a party that is determined to ruin the country.
