Congressman Jim Jordan made clear Wednesday that not only does he think Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance will defeat his Democratic opponent, but he also knows this will be a pivotal midterm election for the GOP.
First, addressing the Senate race in the Buckeye State, Jordan told Chris Cuomo on his fresh NewsNation show that Vance is “getting some momentum.”
“I think his campaign is going where they want it to go, and it’s going great,” he said. “And I think Tim Ryan, as JD notes, Tim Ryan voted with [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi, he voted with [President] Biden voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which did not reduce inflation, but made the problem worse.
But how does Jordan know Republicans will be in good shape in November?
“You know it’s a good year when Joe Biden has to go to Oregon to help the Democratic candidate for governor, a state we haven’t won in 40 years,” he said. “And you know it’s a good year when Tim Ryan spent the entire summer pretending to be a Trump Republican.”
Biden traveled to Oregon last week to lend a helping hand to the Democratic candidate for governor, “who is in danger of losing in a state where no Republican has been elected governor since 1982,” Reuters reports.
The governor’s race pits Democrat Tina Kotek against Republican Christine Drazan and independent candidate Betsy Johnson, a former Democrat who is financially backed by Nike co-founder Phil Knight. All three women are former state legislators. Current Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, is barred from seeking reelection because of term limits.
Biden, who won the state by 16 points over Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, is campaigning for Kotek, while recent polls suggest Drazan has moved ahead. The Cook Political Report and the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics see the race as a tie between the major-party candidates. Johnson is in third place but appears to be siphoning votes from Democrats. (Reuters Agency)
