Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky said Thursday night that the Democratic Party could face a “tea party” movement after the Biden administration hid the truth about President Joe Biden’s health.
Wall Street Journal article released Thursday revealed that White House advisers have “isolated” Biden, even from Cabinet members, since the first year of his presidency. Roginsky said “lying” about Biden’s health would have consequences for Democrats.
“There’s a bigger problem here, and that’s that I think the Democrats are at a point where the Republicans might be right after the Bush election or after the end of the Bush term, which means that I think Democrats are starting to distrust their institutions,” he said. Roginski said. “And this comes down to a bipartisan effort to lie to us about the Iraq War, not only by George Bush but also by many Democrats.
“It has to do with the fact that Barack Obama did not hold anyone accountable after the 2008 crisis, which also happened during the George Bush administration, but he became president, he never threw a hostage on the asphalt from Wall Street,” Roginsky continued. “You saw Bernie Sanders rise as a result and many institutional Democrats, including me, said, no, no, no, this is not the time. We have to stick to the institution.”
Similar articles published by the Wall Street Journal at the beginning of the year for an article published on Thursday repulse in some media outlets, and many experts said Biden’s health was not deteriorating.
“I think there are a lot of Democrats right now, myself included, who are fed up with this institution and the trust in the people in this institution, and this is just one example, the latest example. I think about people institutionally lying to the American people and what you will ultimately see,” Roginsky continued. “And I have no problem saying this as a Democrat that there will be a version of a tea party in the Democratic Party based on the fact that this is another sign that people just don’t trust our leaders any more. I hate to say it, but I think we brought this on ourselves.
Democratic Rep. Adam Smith of Washington told the Wall Street Journal about the difficulty of reaching Biden during the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021. The only time Smith spoke directly to Biden during his term was after a heated exchange with the secretary state Antony Blinken.
During his presidency, Biden has repeatedly said he has spoken to people who have died, including claiming he spoke to the former German chancellor Helmut Kohlwho died in 2017, and former president of France Francois Mitterrandwho died in 1996. In September 2022, Biden he asked on behalf of Rep. Jackie Walorski of Indiana at a conference on hunger held weeks after Walorski and two of his staffers killed in a car accident.
Biden also experienced many lows during his term, including: one at the Air Force Academy in June 2023, prolapse cycling in June 2022 i stumbling on steps Air Force One on multiple occasions. Biden now ascends a different set of stairs onto a VC-25 plane used as Air Force One, among other aircraft concessions to his age.
