Day after day of visibility, the Republicans of Ohio introduced two judgments that would legally erase the trance identity in Buckeye.
Embedded in the Homes of Republicans Proposed budget of 4,491 pages (Sub. HB 96) – introduced on April 1 – the following two sentences:
“Ohio’s state policy is to recognize two sexes, men and women. These payments are not variable and are based on basic and undeniable reality.”
The language is stretched out of the word from the executive order signed by President Donald Trump on January 20, his first day of office.
The sentences were not listed in Ohio House Republicans on the budgetBut some Republican legislators quickly supported.
“It is really embarrassing that we have to say it. The only more embarrassing would not be on such days,” said Rep. Gary Click (R-Vickery) on X.
Comment Click accompanied the entry praising the language of Aaron Baer, president of the Center for Christian virtue, a politically conservative Christian lobbying organization, which was Designated as a group of anti-LGBTQ+ hate by a group of civil rights Southern Center of Poverty Law (SPLC) In 2015-2017.
Book and flag Banning
The budget also proposed the language of reducing young people to books with LGBTQ+content:
“Public Library … will place materials related to sexual orientation, gender identity or expression in a part of the public library, which is not above all open to the view of people under the age of eighteen.”
In addition, the budget would prohibit the state transition to shelters for young people “who promote or confirm the transition of a social sex, in which the individual goes from identification and life as a sex, which corresponds to the sex of biological individuals to identification and life as gender differ from the biological sex of the individual.”
This restriction is proposed despite Statistics checked many times This:
- Up to 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ, while the overall youth population is only 10% LGBTQ.
- 26% of homeless youth LGBTQ is forced to overtake their homes only because of their sexual orientation or sexual identity.
Finally, the budget proposes a language that dictates that state agencies can only fly the official flag of Ohio in the area or buildings, effectively prohibiting the display of pride flags.
Pride flags are increasingly becoming a heated topic in Ohio, and some school districts prohibit flags and other trying to do it.
Implications and reactions
Because the initial response to the proposed budget is concentrated Cutting of funding for public schools and possible Financing taxpayers of the fresh stadium for Cleveland BrownsThe implications of this language on gender are not immediately clear. Despite this, LGBTQ+ groups immediately condemned their language.
Dara Adkison, executive director TransohioCalled the budget “cruel insult, which does nothing to meet the needs of Ohioans, while continuing the obsession of our legislator about attacking trans people.”
“The last thing that our needs they need is more severe restrictions on the ability of homeless young people to access the support and ability of society to access library materials,” said Adksion. “In addition, we are forced to discuss the definitions of sex based on zero reality, which are ridiculously placed in the budget.”
Adkison said that it is painful to see state officials “so brazenly contempt for the people they should represent”, but the language is an opportunity.
“The only consolation of this regressive, harmful budget is to know that every time they speak a quiet part aloud, it gives our community another opportunity to gather in terms of care and support,” said Adkison.
Dwayne Steward, executive director Equality of ohioHe accused legislators of the production of the “problem of cultural war”, and the goal is the LGBTQ+community.
“This is the most reckless bill that came out of the legislator of Ohio,” said Steward. “Limiting access to LGBTQ+ materials in public libraries, criminalization of support for transgender youth and defining sex in narrow, exclusive conditions, legislators use SUB HB 96 to move a dangerous program of removal and control. These rules threaten free access to information, Houseless mental health and sensitive youth, and even transformation abilities to obtain medical care and community. “
Steward condemned the perspective that public funds would be armed to dismantle LGBTQ+ rights and called the proposed language “censorship”. He also called units to gather to stand in opposition to the act.
“How Bayard Rustin They taught us, we always have to organize, educate and resist injustice, wherever it seems, “said Steward.” And we must rely – in the future in which every young person can see himself and his families reflected in their libraries, schools and communities. “
Budget language
It often happens that legislators insert a budget language into the budget. In 2021, the governor of Ohio Mike Dewine used the proposed budget to try to change the language of the state to the party to make it more on.
Embedded on page 606 of this 2057-page documentAccording to the section “The following people can adopt” the words “husband and wife” have been replaced by “legally marriage”.
When the budget was introduced in the chamber, the Republicans changed their tongue back to “husband and wife”. Attempts at democratic legislators in order to change the language of the proposed “legal marriage” were rejected by Republicans, and the budget adopted without a more integration language.
The proposed budget for 2025 will now be heard in the financial committee. Governor Dewine has a veto-positive power and practices it in the past. Ding
