Jim Harbaugh is the coach of the University of Michigan football team. Growing up in this state, this position is just that side of God for people who love U of M… as long as you win, and Harbaugh won last year. But even with this mythical demi-deity status, Harbaugh found himself on the wrong side of the leftist mob because he not only dared to take a position contrary to progressive orthodoxy, but also had the audacity to express it. What sin did Harbaugh commit? He is pro-life.
First of all, you have to wonder how the left has spoiled the terms of the debate so much that most “journalistic” teams no longer operate the “pro-life” label. Nowadays it is “anti-choice” or, less commonly, “anti-abortion”. Oddly enough, it is not “pro-abortion”, but always “pro-choice”.
The semantic argument matters because it reveals where the reporter writing or saying it, or his employer, is coming from. When Coach Harbaugh spoke at the pro-life rally, you could almost hear heads exploding in newsrooms across the state, especially in athletic departments.
Sports reporters are as left-wing as solid news reporters. You’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between The Atlantic and Sports Illustrated these days, just as you might be able to tell the difference between watching MSNBC when you accidentally stopped turning on ESPN. There’s a reason no one watches or reads them. For example, the Atlantic would probably cease to operate if Steve Jobs were alive. But he died, and his leftist widow took it up as a progressive pet project, spending what fell from her couch cushions, keeping that glorious birdcage lining afloat. There’s a lot of this in the liberal media, which leaves them free to engage in whatever liberal propaganda they like because profit doesn’t matter. (I’m looking at you, Washington Post.)
When Harbaugh said he tells his players and those associated with the football team that if they experience an unplanned pregnancy, instead of choosing an abortion, he and his wife will happily raise that child. Not “if you have an abortion you will lose your scholarship or be removed from the team” but please don’t think that is your only option, he and his wife will take that responsibility away from anyone who can’t or can’t handle it . I don’t want it. In other words, choose life.
Well, these words made Democrats very enraged.
If you’re wondering how to do this, you’re not alone. Just remember that Democrats love abortion more than their families. I suspect this is more of a “misery loves company” type of situation where people filled with guilt try to normalize what they have done by getting as many people as possible to do it too, thus making them think that what they did what they did is normal, not wrong. It never works, which explains why they’re always so miserable, but also explains why they never shut up about it.
The left began attacking Harbaugh for simply offering an alternative to abortion.
Nina Turner, a Bernie Sanders acolyte and darling of the radical left who has been humiliated in the last few elections, mockingly said:There are over 10,000 foster children in Michigan” about Harbaugh’s comments. You know what these kids have in common? Everyone is alive.
Another leftist lunatic, and there were plenty of them, replied with“This completely ignores the wear and tear on a pregnant woman’s body, which includes the risk of long-term problems, often constant damage and the risk of death as a result of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. A woman means nothing to these people. They don’t even mention her. Apart from the fact that this gender exists all over the world, it is an insanely stupid concept shared by an alarming number of uninformed leftists who should never leave their homes to eliminate the risk of being hit by a bus.
Since sports journalism is now practiced almost exclusively by Democrats pushing a liberal agenda who also hate sports, the Detroit Free Press weighed in. Using approved “anti” rhetoric, the sports site wrote how Harbaugh’s opinion “is contrary to university policy following the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade”
First, how can a public university have an official opinion on this topic? Secondly, who cares? Third, what is this sport like? And finally, how can a coach’s or anyone else’s opinion on anything at the school rise to the level of scandal?
Not unless the left wants it. In the same way, every Republican is responsible for anything stupid that any Republican says or does (think Todd Akin), but no Democrat is responsible for the stupid or hypocritical things they do (think Eric Swalwell or Jamie Raskin). . Hunter Biden is off limits, but anyone associated with anyone with the last name Trump must be subpoenaed to the point of bankruptcy.
Democrats are bad. If the Michigan Wolverines hadn’t beaten Ohio State to win the Big Ten title last year, Harbaugh would probably be out of a job right now. Winning provides limited mob immunity, if only because the school’s donors pay more attention to the football team than the cesspit that the campus has become under the leftists who run it. But it won’t last forever.
Democrats never forget. And the liberal crowd never stops, it just stops. Mark my words, all eyes will be on everything Jim Harbaugh does or says in the coming year. More reporters than those who have confirmed the reality of what’s on Hunter Biden’s laptop will be dispatched to track down everyone Harbaugh has ever known and every former player, looking for anything they believe might add to the “toxic” atmosphere or otherwise operate liberal buzzword. The clock may not be ticking yet, but it is already running out.
