On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court gave a unanimous legal victory to the Republican National Committee, which accused South Carolina election officials of removing a requirement to prevent voter fraud. To mail a ballot, a voter had to include a signature confirming that the person voting was actually the person who received the ballot.
The High Court ruling overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision which allowed the requirement to be abolished. Lower courts effectively struck down this requirement, citing the coronavirus pandemic in Wuhan.
“Today’s victory is a significant victory for South Carolina voters because the Supreme Court has agreed that witness verification is an important part of protecting the integrity of the vote. While Democrats continue to try to wreak havoc on our election systems and open the door to voter fraud and manipulation, Republicans are resisting – and we are winning,” RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel said in a statement. “The RNC and its Republican allies will continue to meet with Democrats in court to make sure all Americans can have confidence in our elections.”
Chairwoman McDaniel shared the news on Twitter:
