Retired Justice Stevens Puts Democrats on Alert, Calls to Repeal Second Amendment

Democrats panic over retired Supreme Court Justice John Stevens’ comments about repealing the Second Amendment.

You know they’re panicking when they say they’re not panicking.

One is the snail-paced, careful, and methodical destruction of the Bill of Rights by the left, with the facilitate of the media and their children’s crusading proxies.

But it is quite another matter to honestly declare one’s intentions to repeal the Second Amendment, as Stevens, the Republican nominee but a liberal, advocates.

At least Stevens is candid about it, which is what you would expect from a 97-year-old Cubs fan who saw Babe Ruth hit the ball at Wrigley. But he’s got the Democrats all worked up.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant, but what if you don’t want to admit to the American public – before the 2018 election – that destroying the Second Amendment is on the menu?

You panic and say, “That’s not what I meant, that’s not what I meant at all,” as if you were staring at a pin, like in TS Eliot’s poem, which is exactly what Stevens was talking about in his column. New York Times did on the left.

Stevens pinned them to a pin like insects to a board. A fair pin, to be sure, but a pin nonetheless.

So until Democrats find a way to avoid punishment that doesn’t humiliate the retired judge, those who want to destroy long-standing American gun rights should simply reminisce about happier times.

Just like in those blissful days when they hadn’t yet managed to kick out all the moderate Democrats from their party and when John Kerry was running for president.

Kerry, an impossibly wealthy liberal, beneficiary of the Heinz ketchup fortune through his wife, was a man of the world, comfortable on a yacht. But his patrician, upper-crust manner tormented him.

Some political brain decided Kerry should go duck hunting and demonstrate his love of the Second Amendment. So he dressed up as Elmer Fudd.

The only thing missing was a Fudd hat with ear flaps. But that would ruin Kerry’s hair.

Someone shot a few ducks (or maybe his assistant quietly strangled them), but either way, Kerry proudly carried those dead ducks around for the photographers to demonstrate his respect for the Second Amendment and the American right to kill ducks.

The Bill of Rights does not explicitly mention duck hunting, but liberals tend to equate hunting with the right to own guns.

Kerry didn’t mind. He even abandoned his patrician manners for the afternoon and walked around like an animatronic Orvis catalog. And he had some nice Ohio mud on his shoes.

The photo op might have been a success if Kerry hadn’t been wearing a noticeably stiff up-to-date outfit that made him look exactly what he did: a liberal politician in a store-bought hunting outfit, canvassing the votes of ordinary people in Ohio while carrying a shotgun and a pile of dead ducks.

Will we ever see Democrats holding guns during a photo op again?

Perhaps, but they’ll need to put a protected emotional distance between any false respect for the Second Amendment and another recent Democratic event:

This leftist children’s crusade called the March for Our Lives was treated more like a unrehearsed event than a carefully choreographed spectacle.

Young protesters held signs and spent George Clooney’s money while demanding that the government take away Americans’ guns because, as David Hogg, a student leader and trainee demagogue, put it, stupid parents simply cannot be trusted with democracy.

“When your old geezer says, ‘I don’t know how to send an iMessage,’ and you just say, ‘Give me that (expletive deleted) phone and let me handle this,’” Hogg said in an earlier interview. “Unfortunately, that’s what we have to do with our government; our parents don’t know how to use (expletive deleted) democracy, so we have to.”

Of course you do. So just do it.

This is exactly what Stevens recommended in his New York Times editorial.

Stevens wrote that he was moved by the demonstrations in Washington and other major cities, adding that they demonstrate broad public support for legislation aimed at minimizing the risk of mass killings by people with firearms.

“But the demonstrators should be seeking more effective and lasting reform,” Stevens wrote. “They should be seeking to repeal the Second Amendment.”

It would be a more candid debate if Democrats would abandon the pretense, the backbiting, and the dead duck-wearing and follow Stevens’ example of declaring that they want to repeal the Second Amendment. And make their candidates clear about that position in the upcoming midterm elections.

But Democrats shake their heads, saying they do not want to violate the Second Amendment.

“Not if they want to keep their jobs,” said one of CNN’s many left-wing anchors, Symone Sanders, a former press secretary for socialist presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.

This is what happens when Democrats allow people on the right and the Republican Party to define and shape the conversation,” she explained, although Judge Stevens is not exactly right-wing.

Some newborn people at the March for Our Lives have called for America to get rid of guns, but Sanders has said she would not go that far.

“The kids are completely different than the elected Democratic representatives.”

In other words, utilize the Children’s Crusade until you can’t. And insist that you really don’t want to gut the Bill of Rights until it’s done.
