If we look at historical trends, even in recent times, we cannot say that the results of this year’s elections are in the least surprising. The short-term drifts (2018, 2020, 2022) were indicative, but longer-term drifts over the last 60 years or so indicate a decidedly left-wing movement in the country. A tidal wave is sweeping America and nothing seems to be able to stop it.
This year, the Republicans were defeated again. They lost large in Ohio on moral issues (abortion and marijuana), the Kentucky governor’s race wasn’t very close, and now they don’t control either house in Virginia, even though for some chimerical reason they hoped to win both. They retained the position of Governor of Mississippi (whoopee). It was a disaster for the GOP, plain and basic. But again, this isn’t surprising to anyone who knows the history.
Now the analysis will begin. Donald Trump is sure to face a lot of charges, and it’s probably justified. He emerged on the scene as a fresh face and won the presidency in 2016 by defeating a politician whom most Americans despised, even though he received fewer votes than she did. Never forget this last statement. We thank the Founding Fathers for protecting us from the tyranny and stupidity of democracy. But what happened in 2018? 2020? 2022? And now, 2023? Trump will get the blame, it’s always the guy at the top who does it and the numbers don’t lie.
The Republican leadership is terrible and has no idea how to win an election. Ronna McDaniel is completely incompetent, but of course the Stupid Party put her back in office this year. And this year he lost again. There is no cure for stupidity, and the Republican Party is riddled with it, especially at the top. It seems they will never learn.
But then again, as a historian, it’s strenuous for me to blame anything other than… history. What is happening in America has happened to every other great nation/empire in history. They’re having a good run. They become affluent and powerful and then want to enjoy this prosperity. So they become fat and idle, feeble, degenerate, immoral and pleasure-loving. These qualities never cause growth, success and prosperity, they only cause decline, decay and destruction. And America is in the middle of it right now. We have turned away from God and are suffering the consequences. And no nation in human history has turned the tables from such a decline. There may be an occasional skip, Hezekiah or Josiah on the screen, but the overall trend is downward. And that’s where America is heading now and has been heading for over a generation.
The only answer is to return to the positive spiritual values on which the country was built and thanks to which it became a great nation. This is not in the future and has never happened before. Most Americans have succumbed to degenerate evil and self-absorption – imitating the country’s leadership. The Democratic Party lives off this. They have no motivation to change it. The answer, the cure, lies in the human heart. But the heart of the Democratic Party is pure evil. How to reform it?
And no one wants to look there. The Left certainly won’t do this because it wants nothing but power, and its power comes from evil. And America sleeps. Fisher Ames (1831) is credited with the following statement: “The lie spreads from Maine to Georgia while the truth puts its boots on.” Mark Twain allegedly added a variant: “A lie will fly around the world while the truth puts on its boots.” Regardless of who actually said it, many wise people have recognized this truth. “The Apostle Paul’s evil company corrupts good manners” should not be the case – good people should take evil to a higher level – but unfortunately his statement is a reality, not an ideal. As more evil spreads, well, more evil spreads. As Plato said, the greatest victory a man can achieve is to conquer himself. Only a few ever do it. You only have to look at America today to see this.

Is there hope? Well, in a way there is hope. There is always hope. The future hasn’t happened yet, so we don’t know what it will bring. Let’s be positive. In other words, let’s not look at history and see what happened to EVERY COUNTRY that did exactly what America is doing today. Sure, there is hope. What else do we have?

Left unchecked and unchecked, the jungle grows and destroys everything in its path. Uncollected garbage spreads and attracts pests and rats. Barbarians will always find a way to get through walls. Usually when good people are sleeping. And when evil has power. This is called “history”.
Republicans beaten again. Can this be stopped? Possible, but unlikely. For when men “have eaten, and are filled, and become fat, then they will turn to other gods and serve them; and they will provoke me” (Deuteronomy 31:20). History. We can hope. And keep our powder droughty.
