A new report shows the Biden administration is trying to implement federal laws that will be challenging for the next president to change as polls increasingly show Joe Biden will lose the November election to former President Donald Trump.
According to Daily conversationalistthe report shows that President Trump plans to sign multiple resolutions under the Congressional Review Act of 1996 if he wins a second term, aimed at repealing many of Biden’s policies. In response, Biden White House officials are exploring ways to make the regulations more enduring or harder to undo.
“Everyone is looking back at what happened in 2017 and thinking, ‘This could happen again in 2025,’” said Steven Balla, co-director of the Center for Regulatory Studies at George Washington University. “Wall Street” daily.
“If re-elected, President Trump will immediately impose burdensome regulations on Joe Biden, unleash our domestic energy industry, and implement a pro-worker agenda that will lift up all Americanssaid Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt.
Biden officials said anonymously WSJ that they have until the end of May to pass the legislation before Trump can reverse it in his second term. The Congressional Review Act (CRA) gives Congress the authority to review policies and regulations passed by the executive branch; this act is often used during the transition period between two administrations.
Regulations introduced within 60 business days of the end of the current session of Congress could become a target in the next Congress, especially if Republicans regain control of the Senate and maintain a majority in the House. As a result, the Biden administration is rushing to introduce as many new regulations as possible in the spring.
Previously, the CRA had only been used once since its introduction, when George W. Bush repealed a regulation put in place by his predecessor, Bill Clinton. President Trump then used the law 16 times to undo policies put in place by the Obama administration. Meanwhile, Biden has used it only three times since taking power.
Most polls show President Trump leading Biden nationally and in most major swing states. CNN Currently has President Trump leading in Georgia, Michigan and Nevada, giving him 272 electoral votes; from a recent national CNN poll had Trump ahead by 9% over Biden, along with third-party candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein and Cornel West.
