President Joe Biden and the White House reacted with surprise following the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville on Monday. While Thursday press conferenceWhite House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about statement ON “Trans Day of Visibility” and in response he gave in particular a passionate response that, in part, mentioned that “our hearts go out to those – the transgender community who are currently under attack.”

Our friends from Twitchy highlighted reactions to Jean-Pierre’s comments, including one user’s pertinent tweet about an “alternate universe” in response.
As Brett T. so aptly wrote in his roundup of reaction tweets:
No one seems to care about the victims of Monday’s mass shooting by a transgender man that killed six people, including three 9-year-old girls, at a Christian school. No, Democrats and the mainstream media are concerned about the reaction of the “far right,” the Department of Justice has just concluded virtual presentation on protecting the LGBTQIA+ community against hate-motivated attacks.
Some immediately blamed the state of Tennessee for passing laws denying “medical care” to trans minors. Karine Jean Pierre seemed to do just that during her press conference on Thursday[.]
Jean-Pierre’s comments didn’t just cover the audio fragment, however. In response to the discussion regarding now-cancelled Trans Day of Vengeance, which the reporter called “a march… intended to commemorate this day, but also to protest against the types of bills that continue to be passed and introduced in legislatures across the country,” before asking about the White House’s message to “those who take to the streets to protest” Jean-Pierre emphasized that “they support peaceful protests.
The rally itself, which also took place on Thursday, was not “peaceful” and was tantamount to the insurrection at the Tennessee Capitol.
Also in her response, Jean-Pierre recalled how busy the White House and the current administration are in profiling the so-called “transgender children” and promoting what They may refer to fancy terms such as “gender affirming careIn fact, such a process can involve genital mutilation and sterilization, not to mention all the adverse health side effects. The press secretary said he has “made it clear” that such “anti-trans bills… attack transgender children when they attack transgender parents” and are “shameful” and “unacceptable.”
Jean-Pierre also stated that with this stance on such legislation, Democrats performed better than expected in the 2022 midterm elections, and one of the lessons was that “people don’t want their freedoms taken away” and instead “they want us to fight for our freedom.” She then reiterated that such bills are “shameful,” even calling them “disturbing,” and shared that “our hearts go out to those — the transgender community who are currently under attack.” “
The press secretary was at least right when he said Biden’s “history shows that” his administration deals with children who may think they are transgender.
As for talking about the shooting that had just occurred and the suspect identifying as transgender, Jean-Pierre did so in her opening remarks in an attempt to score political points. “We have heard nothing from Republicans in Congress about what they will do to prevent our children from being murdered in our schools and communities,” she said.
This narrative echoes the claims of Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), who got into a fight on Capitol Hill with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) on Wednesday night when he tried to propose solutions that Bowman didn’t want to hear. The team member continued this story on Twitter.
But on Thursday, Townhall learned that Tennessee’s Republican senators, Sens. Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn, will be introducing the Secure Aid to Every School (SAFE) Act. As Spencer explained, the bill “would establish a $900 million grant program that could benefit both public and private schools and builds on Blackburn’s previous work to introduce similar legislation in the 117th Congress.”
The shooting also occurred because a reporter asked if the president had plans to go to the community, noting that First Lady Jill Biden did so. Jean-Pierre replied that they had “nothing to share regarding a trip to Nashville at this time.”
The district is represented by a Republican congressman and the state by Republican senators in Congress. It has a Republican governor, and Republicans control its legislature. The state also voted for President Donald Trump, voting for the Republican Party’s presidential nominee since 2000. You can’t assist but wonder if Biden will go himself because the political composition of this area does not match. He also didn’t go to East Palestine, Ohio, months after the toxic train derailed.
Biden’s own reactions to the tragedy were no better. His Monday remarks at the women’s summit, during which he mentioned the shooting, began with jokes about ice cream. When the shooting he did it turned out to involve Biden, who again demanded that Congress pass a so-called assault weapons ban.
Six victims, including three 9-year-old children, were murdered at a private Christian school, prompting Republican lawmakers to ask questions and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) even demanding that the investigation into the shooting be declared a hate crime. The president joked about the incident when asked about Hawley’s demands.
