Ohio Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) revealed Monday morning that he will not seek a third term in the 2022 midterm elections. The prominent Republican cited “partisan gridlock” in making his final decision to withdraw from the Senate, even though he will finish his current term.
“I feel fortunate that the people of Ohio have trusted me to represent them in the U.S. Senate. Today I am announcing that I have made the decision that I will not run again in 2022.” Portman said on Monday. “It doesn’t mean I’m leaving now. I have two years left in my term and I intend to exploit that time to do a lot. I will be the top Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. I also have many supervisory projects and legislative initiatives that I want to complete. “I look forward to focusing all of my energy over the next two years on legislation and the challenges facing our country, rather than fundraising and campaigning.”
