About 72 million Americans voted to re-elect President Trump. The former president supported Ohio with almost 500,000 votes. Now two Buckeye State lawmakers are planning something special to commemorate the achievements of Trump’s presidency.
State Reps. Reggie Stoltzfus and Jon Cross proposed to the Ohio House of Representatives for a daylong celebration of the previous administration’s achievements. Republican lawmakers chose June 14, Flag Day, for the proposed “Donald J. Trump President Day” in Ohio.
“Former President Donald J. Trump was our 45th president of the United States, and against all odds, he accomplished many things that led our nation to unparalleled prosperity,” the two lawmakers wrote in a co-sponsorship request obtained by Ohio Capital Journal.
“(Trump) embodied the emotions of millions of Ohioans who for too long have felt marginalized by our government and the American political system,” the lawmakers added. “While the media tarnishes his achievements and legacy, the legislation will help ensure that for one day a year, the voices of millions of people from all corners of our state are remembered.”
Hannah News Service reporter Noah Blundo noted that there is precedent for honoring a former president on one day. In Ohio, February 6 was designated “Ronald Reagan Day” by resolution of the 127th Ohio General Assembly.
June 14 is also Donald Trump’s birthday.
