If he is confirmed by Ohio House and Senate Ohio, Tressel will replace the former lieutenant Jon Husted, whom Dwinee appointed last month to the US Senate.
“Jim Tressel knows Ohio, divides Ohio’s values and is a born leader,” said Dewine in a communiqué.
Tressel recently served as the president of Youngstown State University Before retiring in 2023, Tressel also served 15 years as the main coach of the Youngstown State University football team before he became the main football coach at Ohio State Buckeyes for 10 seasons.
Dewine said that Tressel’s experience in education, labor development and economic development played a huge role in his decision to ask him to take the role of a governor.
“Jim spent a lot of time at work and leading young people, and he will be involved directly in the education and development of the labor force during the other two years of my administration,” said Dewine.
Tressel called it a humble moment.
“I believe in our governor and what he believes,” said Tressel. “For the next 699 days I promised that she would have the independence of the target and loneliness, which is to meet the Governor’s needs.”
The selection of Tressel appears when the image of the election in 2026 Ohio becomes more clear.
