Majority of voters oppose teaching gender identity curriculum in primary schools: poll

AND New York Times/Siena A poll released this month found that a gigantic majority of American voters oppose teaching school children about sexual orientation and gender identity in public schools.

In the survey, 70 percent of registered voters said they “strongly oppose” or “somewhat oppose” this type of curriculum for elementary school students. On the other hand, 27 percent of registered voters said they “somewhat support” or “greatly support” this type of teaching material.

Seventy percent of voters aged 45 to 64 said they would oppose a curriculum on sexual orientation and gender identity for that age group. Seventy-eight of those aged 65 and older and 69 percent of voters aged 30 to 44 also said they opposed it. Fifty-one percent of voters aged 18 to 29 said they opposed teaching children this type of curriculum in primary schools.

As a follow-up, voters were asked whether they supported or opposed teaching sexual orientation and gender identity curriculum in public schools for high school students in grades six through eight. Forty-four percent of voters said they “somewhat” or “strongly” supported such curriculum for high school students, while 54 percent said they “somewhat” or “strongly” opposed such curriculum for that age group.

For high school students, 56 percent said they would “strongly” or “somewhat” support classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. Forty-two percent of voters said they would oppose this educational material for high school students.

This week, Townhall described how America’s largest teachers union was equipping teachers in Ohio with QR code badges that directed students to guides promoting “nonbinary” gender identities, “queer sex,” the idea that “transgender men” can get pregnant, among other topics. In Wisconsin, the state’s Department of Public Education is reportedly promoting transgender resources to preschoolers and their families.

Earlier this year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed the Parental Rights in Education Act, which prohibits schools from teaching children up to third grade a curriculum about gender identity and sexual orientation.

“Parents have the right to see the curriculum in their children’s schools and to know what types of books are in the schools’ libraries,” DeSantis said as he signed the bill.

“There has been a lot of discussion about this particular piece of legislation,” he added. “They [leftists] “I know, and any poll that has actually looked at the bill’s provisions will show, that the vast majority of Americans oppose introducing this type of material into early childhood classrooms.”
