Latino voters in key swing states trust Trump more than Biden on immigration issues, poll shows

by Jason Hopkins

A novel poll in key swing states shows more Latino voters trust former President Donald Trump on immigration issues than President Joe Biden.

A newly released report found that 41 percent of Latino voters trust Trump to handle immigration, while only 38 percent said the same about Biden. Equis Poll. The poll surveyed 1,592 registered Latino voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The poll found the gap is even wider among non-Hispanic voters, with 49 percent of respondents trusting the former Republican president and the GOP on immigration compared to just 34 percent of Biden and Democrats.

The survey found that many Latino voters are frustrated with Democrats’ record on the issue, with 72 percent of Latino respondents describing themselves as “very” or “somewhat” concerned about Democrats’ “broken promises” on immigration. Sixty-five percent of Latino respondents also expressed concern about Democrats’ failure to provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

The poll, which was conducted April 20-May 5 in English and Spanish, has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points among respondents in battleground states.

The Equis poll was the latest to show that voter support for Biden is withering on immigration, particularly among Latinos.

Fifty-three percent of Latino adults support “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants currently in the U.S. illegally.” According to a CBS/YouGov poll conducted earlier this month. Just 47 percent of Latino respondents said they opposed the measure, which is well beyond the poll’s margin of error.

The same CBS/YouGov poll found that 62 percent of respondents support deporting “all” U.S. illegal immigrants, including majorities of men, women, independents, conservatives, moderates, Republicans, people with a four-year college degree, people without a college degree, and people over 30 years of age. Only black Americans, Democrats, liberals and adults under 30 were overwhelmingly opposed to such a plan.

According to An Economist Poll/YouGov released earlier this month. On the other hand, more than 60 percent of respondents to the Economist survey expressed disapproval of the way he approached the issue, and of those, 47 percent said they strongly disagreed.

Biden’s penniless polling numbers come to featherlight as the United States continues to grapple with a massive illegal immigration crisis. During Biden’s term, there have been more than seven million migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border, According to the latest data from Customs and Border Protection.
