Conservatives should be against the great government and oppose the belief of the left that problems can and should be resolved by Washington.
That is why the Governor of Ohio and the Republican candidate for President John Kasich about the creation of a modern government agency to promote “Judeo-Christian value” is a really bad idea.
Put aside for a moment that the federal government is doing little things well or within the budget, and also think about how ridiculous and impossible would be such an idea.
In a speech at the National Press Club in Washington last week Kasich, who grew up Catholic and remains a man of Christian faith, said that he thinks that the US needs such an agency to assist the country “stronger in the battle for ideas. “He added:” Public diplomacy and international transmission in the US lost focus on the case of Western values and ideals and effectively counteracts propaganda and disinformation of opponents. “
Here is a brief list of many problems with such a proposal.
Problem No. 1: Who would represent “Judeos” and “Christians”? Would it be an Orthodox or reformed Jew? Would a Jewish mystic from the Kabbalah sect include? There are many Christian denominations and sects, so how would Kasich choose one as a representative of Christianity? Will they skip the protest? Would there be lawsuits, not only from excluded religious groups, but from Acl? Separation of the state of the Church, you know.
Problem No. 2: What “values” would be promoted? Certainly not, you can hope, cultural values, displayed in many Hollywood movies and on television. Does Kasich’s “traditional values” support even practiced by most Americans at a time when it seems that we tolerate everything (except for classic values) and when Kardashians occupy too much brain space? Who would be the ultimate decision -maker, on which “values” to be promoted? What about people who try to promote values other than Kasich?
Problem No. 3: Do we really want to convey what responsibility and privilege of individual religious religious believers should be, which cannot even save dollars collected from taxpayers, and even more so the souls of individual citizens? Too many churches, especially, withdrew from their responsibility for applying faith to those who are hungry, homeless and trapped. Ministries exempt from tax are now carried out by people.
Problem No. 4: How do you promote American “values” of secular and Islamic societies, which mostly do not divide them? Who has the credibility of speaking and representing such values, even if they can be agreed?
The president can promote values, speaking about them and supporting people and programs that practice them. Voice of America and Radio Liberty used American values to the world during the Cold War, but in the Internet era, which can be easily attacking, it is probably not as effective as the network.
For the country to promote something, it must exercise it first. A better idea would be to allow the choice of school so that especially impoverished children could be liberated from the defeat of public schools and have a chance for a better life. Good education is a value that can be increased, the federal government disappears from the road and destroying the last essential monopoly in the country: public education.
Kasich rightly regrets the loss of some basic values that most Americans once accepted. It was not the federal government that got rid of most of them – although the Supreme Court played a role. Rather, we, people, decided to live according to different values for our pests and shame. If they are to come back, it will take care of the work of these “Judeo-Chrzeszjan”, not the dysfunctional federal government.
