Don’t do this. Just don’t do it. This largely reflects former House Speaker John Boehner’s view of former Gov. John Kasich’s presidential ambitions. That would mean the former 2016 candidate would have to face President Donald J. Trump. Bad idea. First, some states it may not even hold a primary election for the 2020 cycle. Dear friends, we already have our candidate. This is just extreme stupidity. And Kasich comes from a state that is now unequivocally Trump country. On a podcast with NBC’s Chuck Todd, Boehner offered indirect advice to his Ohio Republican colleague (via Hill):
Former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said he “wouldn’t bother” mounting a primary challenge to President Trump if he were former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R).
“No, no, I wouldn’t bother with it if I were him,” Boehner said during an interview on NBC host Chuck Todd’s podcast, “Chuck Toddcast,” according to Politico Playbook. The episode is scheduled to air on Wednesday.
Boehner added that Trump has enough support across the country to mount a primary challenge in 2020.
“Where 38 percent of Americans are substantial supporters of President Trump. And you know, they will come and vote for him,” he said.
Bill Weld is already challenging Trump. The former Republican governor of Massachusetts, who ran for vice president on the Libertarian ticket in 2016 and largely supported Hillary Clinton, announced his candidacy last week. Does Weld have a death wish or simply has too much time on his hands? Perhaps it’s a combination of both. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is he is reportedly considering a challenge for 2020also to Trump. At least the moderate wing of the party is showing some impudence. although it is out of place. This is an idiotic move. That’s brave; brave but stupid. Is this the last gasp of the anti-Trump/skeptical wing of the party? Probably.
