Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), running to fill the vacant Senate seat held by Senator Rob Portman (R-OH), made some problematic remarks about inflation in reference to Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV). opposition to radical spending bill The Democratic leadership is trying to break through. His comments came during Wednesday’s episode of CNN’s “Inside politics“
Host Abby Phillip asked Ryan about Manchin’s view, noting that “and Sen. Manchin cited inflation mainly as a reason why he thinks Democrats need to hold off on this for now,” asking, “Do you buy that as a reason to maybe continue slow on such regulations? You also talked about inflation in the Senate race. Do you know how much of a concern this is for voters?
But Ryan started by acknowledging how inflation affects people. “People are being crushed. I mean, there’s no question, there’s no denying how difficult these last few months have been for working-class people across the country. Gasoline prices, food prices, supply chain shutdown, the whole nine yards, it was brutal.” He then went on to tout how he was “calling for tax cuts” and supported Democrats’ claim that “we’re seeing gas prices starting to fall.”
The most damning part came at the end of his answer, when he stated, “I don’t think inflation is really an issue when it comes to investing in the jobs of the future.”
Regardless of what Ryan admits, no voter wants to hear any candidate say that he “doesn’t think inflation is really a problem when it comes to” anything. Polls consistently show that inflation is a top concern for voters.
Ryan’s response went unchallenged by Phillip, which brought the race to a state of the art between him and his Republican challenger, J.D. Vance.
Vance took note of Ryan’s comments and shared them on his Twitter account Breitbart article highlighting Ryan’s segment.
While Joe Manchin had the courage to go against his party on legislation that would destroy jobs and further escalate inflation, Tim Ryan bent the knee to Biden and Pelosi. This will hurt Ohio, but Tim doesn’t care. He didn’t go to Washington to serve his constituents. https://t.co/PVqfKoMvjW

Despite some people claiming that it is the race of any person, forecasters favor Vance. Inside Elections even rates the race as “solid Republican,” while Cook’s Political Report calls it “lean Republican” and Sabato’s Crystal Ball states it is “likely Republican.”
