Although Hunter Biden was found guilty on Tuesday of federal gun charges – for crimes committed in 2018 – the first son’s legal troubles are far from over, with House Republicans conducting an impeachment inquiry into his father, President Joe Biden, They claim that this should be only the beginning of responsibility.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, said in a statement after the conviction that his client’s legal team “will continue to vigorously pursue any legal challenges available to Hunter.”
These available options include challenging core gun laws in the Supreme Court on constitutional grounds.
Meanwhile, Hunter Biden will continue to face enormous pressure with his upcoming sentencing and another federal trial on alleged tax violations in California, which is scheduled to begin in September, just weeks before the November election in which his Democrat father , is seeking re-election.
In his public statement immediately after his conviction on three federal gun charges, Hunter Biden said he was “disappointed” but also “grateful for the love and support” of his family.
First lady Jill Biden was a constant guest at the Delaware courthouse with Hunter’s wife, Melissa Cohen.
At the end of a week-long trial, Hunter Biden was found guilty of lying on paperwork for a 2018 gun purchase about his drug addiction and illegal possession of a gun he bought while using crack cocaine. He faces up to 25 years in prison, but a sentencing date has not yet been set.
President Biden, who is reported to be constantly concerned about his son’s legal problems, expressed his support for Hunter and outlined any legal challenges he may file regarding the verdict.
“As I said last week, I am the president, but I am also a dad. Jill and I love our son and are very proud of the man he is today. “So many families who have loved ones struggling with addiction understand the feeling of pride in seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery,” Biden said: according to CNN.
Biden flew from the White House by helicopter back to his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware, to meet with his family almost immediately after the jury’s verdict was announced.
“As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process while Hunter hears his appeal. Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with love and support. Nothing will ever change this,” the president also said.
According to Hunter Biden’s lawyer, the first son will try to appeal the verdict. However, recent reports indicate that these efforts may be narrow by increasing financial pressures.
Earlier this month “Polityka” reports. that Hunter Biden’s benefactor and friend who financed his legal defense, Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, is running out of funds. Morris does he loaned his first son almost $6 million from 2019 to support the unemployed first son, Only News previously reported.
If he is able to fund his legal defense, Biden could try to challenge the gun laws underlying his conviction to the Supreme Court. Some legal commentators believe the first son has the ability to challenge the conviction on constitutional grounds.
Last year, a federal appeals court he overturned the law prohibiting illegal drug users from possessing firearms.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the conviction of Patrick Darnell Daniels Jr. after he was convicted on similar charges to Hunter Biden. When law enforcement stopped Daniels for driving without a license plate, officers found two loaded firearms and marijuana cigarette butts in the vehicle.
The court ruled that the conviction violated Daniels’ Second Amendment rights and that existing law was not consistent with a up-to-date firearms restriction requirement outlined by the Supreme Court the previous year: Gun laws must be consistent with historic firearms laws.
“In short, our history and tradition may support some limitations on an intoxicated person’s right to bear arms, but that does not justify disarming a sober citizen solely on the basis of his prior drug use,” U.S. District Judge Jerry Smith wrote to the court.
“Neither do more generalized traditions of disarming dangerous people support this restriction on peaceful drug users,” he added. “Thus, with respect to Daniels, § 922(g)(3) violates the Second Amendment.”
“Since there was a decision like this in the 5th Circuit – obviously, because it’s a different circuit, it could go all the way to the Supreme Court to approve this particular bill,” said Tim Parlatore, a former lawyer for Donald Trump: according to CNN.
Parlatore also said Hunter Biden’s challenge to the law could draw support from Second Amendment groups that want the law repealed.
California’s federal tax trial is scheduled to begin in September.
Biden is 54 years elderly accused of failing to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes over four years. In total, he was charged with three tax crimes and six misdemeanors, for which he faces a maximum of 17 years in prison.
The process is expected to follow more closely related to Biden’s foreign business contactsincluding significant income he received from serving on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and establishing a joint venture with Ye Jianming of CEFC China Energy, affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party.
He is will likely continue to be under pressure from Republicans in the House of Representatives he also led an impeachment inquiry into his father.
After the verdict, leaders of the investigation said that convicting Biden on three federal gun charges is a good first step, but should only be the beginning of accountability for the Biden family.
“Today’s verdict is a step toward accountability, but until the Department of Justice investigates all those involved in the Bidens’ corrupt influence-trading schemes that generated more than $18 million in foreign payments to the Biden family, it will be clear that department officials continue to cover for the Great Guy, Joe Biden,” House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said message to X.
It’s no secret what House Republicans think the next steps should be.
Last week, the three chairs leading the inquiry from the Oversight Committee, the Ways and Means Committee, and the Judiciary Committee reported the crime with the Justice Department regarding Hunter and James Biden’s uncle, the president’s brother, for allegedly making false statements to his committee while testifying as part of the impeachment inquiry.
