The House budget bill, the American Relief Act 2025, failed to receive a two-thirds majority on Thursday.
The final vote total was 174-235, with one MP present. A total of 38 Republicans voted against the bill.
A two-thirds majority was needed to suspend the rules and pass the bill without the mediation of the committee.
The latest House budget deal was intended to avert Friday’s government shutdown. The original plan, a continuation of the omnibus resolution/bill, failed on Wednesday Republicans expressed concerns about expenses filled with pork.
The bill includes a provision extending the debt limit until January 2027, which was not included in the original, bipartisan version of the bill. It also includes about $110 billion in disaster relief funding. President-elect Donald Trump supported the fresh version.
