The House Oversight Committee on Wednesday subpoenaed a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official for allegedly failing to investigate an investigation into Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party, according to a letter obtained exclusively by the Daily Daily. (CCP). Caller News Foundation.
House Oversight and Accountability Committee Subpoena requires DHS senior counsel in the department’s Office of Legislative Affairs, Jacob Marx, is scheduled to appear to testify related to whistleblower disclosures obtained by the committee allegedly regarding Walz’s “long-standing ties to the CCP.” Committee garden under the shop DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in September requested “documents and communications regarding Governor Walz’s ties to the CCP,” but claims DHS did not provide “responsive documents,” “substantive information, or any assurance that substantive information would be received.”
Kentucky Republican James Comer, who chairs the Oversight Committee, told the DCNF that he “fully expects” Marks “to comply with our lawful subpoena and appear to testify.”
“This is a serious national security threat, and DHS’s failure to provide the Commission with information about Governor Walz’s extensive ties to the CCP and his unwillingness to cooperate in good faith with this investigation is completely inexcusable,” Comer said.
Walz’s relationship with the Chinese government has come under increased scrutiny following Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision choice With two-term governor for her candidacy in the unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign.

‘Rebellion’
In September 2024, the commission sent letter to Mayorkas after a whistleblower allegedly revealed the existence of a “classified Microsoft Teams group chat between DHS employees” that included conversations expressing concerns about Walz’s ties to the Chinese government.
The commission’s September letter included a subpoena asking DHS to produce documents and communications regarding Walz’s alleged ties to the CCP.
Although DHS sent a letter to the committee on October 7 and spoke to the committee by telephone on October 21, the committee on October 29 letter to Mayorkas accused DHS of “failing to produce a single responsive document” and therefore failing to comply with the subpoena.
“Due to DHS’s failure to comply with the Commission’s subpoena and unwillingness to cooperate in good faith, the Commission is releasing a small portion of the Department’s internal communications it received from the whistleblower,” the commission’s October 29 letter reads.
“Walt has a vice president. “You all have no idea how this translates into what the prc is doing here with him and the local government,” alleged DHS group chat shared in the October 29 commission letter he stated. “It’s really a matter of intelligence. Select someone who is believed to have the ability to get into DC.”
The committee’s October 29 letter concluded with a request that DHS special counsel Marx “report for a transcript of an interview with Commission staff” by November 4, 2024.
However, DHS allegedly “refused to make Mr. Marx available for a transcript of the interview.” According to to the commission’s latest letter of December 11, which contains a subpoena “requiring Mr. Marks to participate in testimony before the Commission.”
“DHS’s continued opposition is unacceptable, and its leadership’s pattern of ‘conscious and systemic refusal to comply with the law’ and ‘consciousness[] block[ion] [of] “lawful surveillance” is highly concerning given the national security implications uncovered by the Commission’s investigation,” the December letter said.
“Influence and infiltration campaigns”
Committee in October released a report detailing how the CCP is using “political warfare” to “establish footholds, dependencies, and both willing and unwitting allies that support its larger efforts to undermine the United States.”
The commission’s report identified “elite capture” as one of the elements of the political war.
“By any reasonable analysis, the United States is facing a fresh Cold War, but under the current administration, only its adversary – the CCP – is committed to winning it. Unlike the first Cold War, the adversary is already inside, entrenching itself within U.S. borders, institutions, enterprises, universities and cultural centers, kidnapping elites from influential circles,” the commission’s report stated.
The report goes on to allege that Walz may be an example of elite capture.
“For example, current Democratic vice presidential candidate Timothy Walz has long-standing ties to CCP-affiliated entities and officials. “These connections show signs of a takeover by the CCP elite, making Governor Walz susceptible to CCP influence in his decision-making as governor,” the report said.
In addition to traveling in China, Walz also has a long history of attending events in Minnesota organized by people working for the CCP’s influence and intelligence agency called the United Front Work Department (UFWD), formerly DCNF reported. Among other things, the UFWD “collects intelligence, controls overseas Chinese-language media, seeks to influence Chinese diaspora groups, facilitates illegal technology transfers, and interferes in politics in other countries.” According to to the House of Representatives special committee on the CCP.
DCNF found that Walz participated in multiple events organized by members of the UFWD organization in Minnesota affiliated with the Chinese Police Department of Public Safety, including one 2022 fundraiser for Walz’s gubernatorial campaign.
Comer told DCNF that the CCP has a plan to “destroy the United States through coordinated influence and infiltration campaigns that target every aspect of American life, including our elected officials.”
