Here’s why a transgender candidate was disqualified from running for office

A “transgender woman” from Ohio claimed that “she” was disqualified from running for the state House of Representatives because “she” failed to disclose “her” dead name, which she had before transitioning.

According to NBC News, a transgender person, 42-year-old Vanessa Joy, planned to run as a Democrat for the House of Representatives. Ohio law reportedly requires office seekers who have changed their name within the last five years to include their previous names on their candidacy petitions. This does not apply to persons who changed their surname due to marriage.

“For many transgender and gender non-conforming people, this is a barrier to entry,” Joy said in an interview with NBC News on Thursday. “While I personally would just bite the bullet and let my name be on petitions and possibly on the ballot, many transgender people do not want their names in print. For many, it is a safety issue.”

In a separate interview with WEWS, Joy stated, “In the transgender community, our dead names are dead. There’s a reason he’s dead – he’s a dead person who’s gone and buried.”

Andy Ngo on Thursday reported that Joy was previously known as “Jeremy Michael Adams,” who filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which was not disclosed to potential voters. Ngo wrote that Joy is a “sex worker” who posts adult content on the OnlyFans platform.

Newsweek she noted that Joy is the “stepdaughter” of Republican state representative Bill Roemer, but “they are not in a relationship and have never met.”

Late last month, Ohio made national headlines over its LGBTQ+ legislation. Townhall reported that Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced he would veto legislation that would have barred men who identify as “transgender women” from competing in women’s sports and banned minors from undergoing experimental gender grooming.

In remarks, DeWine said that if the bill were to become law, “Ohio would say that the state and government know better what is medically best for a child than the two people who love that child most: the parents. “
