A report by The Telegraph shows that the parents of a teenager who identifies as “non-binary” failed to prevent their child from having irreversible transgender surgery.
According to reports, the parents have asked the High Court in London to issue an injunction preventing their 17-year-old daughter from undergoing a mastectomy. The court refused to issue an order, stating that the child would soon turn 18 and would be able to consent to experimental, irreversible, so-called “gender-affirming” treatment (via Telegraph):
The court heard that the 17-year-old first began to identify as lesbian and non-binary at the age of just eleven, but did not want to tell her parents, who the child said believed that LGBTQ+ people were evil and satanic. The parents denied this.
The teenager, who uses the pronouns they and them, told the court: “My parents constantly emotionally abused me as they almost commented to me that identifying as transgender meant I was mentally ill, and they constantly made homophobic/transphobic comments to me under my address and say, for example, that LGBTQ+ is normal in the UK because they are trying to reduce the population.”
The 17-year-old, identified only as EE in court documents, ran away from home in November 2022 to live in foster care after a series of incidents with her mother and father.
EE’s parents claimed that their daughter suffered from “a catatonic state, a psychotic episode and bipolar disorder.” According to reports, a doctor in the family’s home country diagnosed the teenager with schizotypal personality disorder.
EE’s lawyers argued that her parents’ attempts to seek help for their daughter were “oppressive” and wanted to confirm their “held belief” that their daughter suffered from a mental illness because they believed she was “non-binary.”
In his ruling, the judge reportedly wrote that EE’s parents made “homophobic” comments at her and believed her exploit of the binder was a form of self-harm. Additionally, the judge wrote that forcing EE to undergo therapy last year was a form of “conversion therapy” that is illegal.
In the United States, many LGBTQ+ advocates are pushing to allow harmful, experimental, and irreversible care for transgender children. Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, a Republican, introduced legislation to ban the type of experimental, irreversible treatments and surgeries on minors that Townhal was practicing.
“Under no circumstances should doctors be allowed to perform these gruesome, irreversible surgeries on minor children. With this legislation, we have a chance to save countless young Americans from a lifetime of suffering and regret. I want to thank Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene for her leadership on this issue and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to protect children from these life-changing procedures,” Vance told The Daily Caller, which first reported on the legislation.
