Harris Leads Polls After Debate Despite Claims of Victory

Vice President Kamala Harris did not have much influence on her standing despite being predicted to win the debate by viewers, according to a up-to-date poll released Sunday.

Following Tuesday’s presidential debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump, a handful experts he predicted boost in polls for Harris. However, while 58 percent of Americans say Harris won the debate, she gained just one point compared to pre-debate polls, currently holding 51 percent support for Trump compared to 47 percent among registered voters, ABC News/Ipsos data can be seen.

The poll, which was conducted by Langer Research Associated with Ipsos field research, surveyed 3,276 adults online between Sept. 11 and 13 and had a margin of sampling error of 2 percent. In addition to support from registered voters, the poll shows Harris with 51 percent among all adults to Trump’s 46 percent, and among likely voters, Harris with 52 percent to Trump’s 46 percent.

Among the up-to-date post-debate data, 37 percent of voters viewed Harris more favorably after the debate, compared to 23 percent who viewed her less favorably. But Harris’ boost came mostly from her base, with 69 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents saying they viewed the vice president more favorably after the debate, while 34 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents viewed Trump more favorably, according to ABC News/Ipsos.

Immediately after the debate, singer Taylor Swift he broke her silence about the anticipated endorsement and revealed that she would be supporting Harris in November. While the move sparked online celebrations from Democrats, it had little impact on polls, with only 6 percent of voters saying Swift’s endorsement made them more likely to vote for Harris.

Meanwhile, 13 percent of respondents said it made them less likely to support the vice president, while 81 percent said it made no difference, the data show.

The former president’s approval ratings appear to be down about four points from August, with a post-debate poll showing 56 percent of Trump supporters strongly approving him. And 62 percent of Harris supporters strongly approving her, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll.

Despite support from supporters, 42 percent of voters viewed Trump as too conservative on some issues, while 47 percent called Harris “too liberal,” a point Trump made during the debate.

With the economy and inflation still at the forefront of the vote, most crucial concerns When it comes to November voting, Trump leads Harris by 7 points on who Americans trust more to do the job. While the two are tied on crime and safety, Trump leads Harris by 10 points on immigration, and the vice president leads by 9 points on health care and 14 points on abortion, the data show.
