The Chamber of Representatives adopted the Act on the security of American voters (SAVE) on Thursday, which would require evidence of US documentary citizenship during registration for voting for federal elections.
The final vote was 220-208, and one democrat would not be because of medical problems. Four Democrats voted with all the Republicans to support the act. Four Republicans did not vote.
While non -citizens cannot vote in federal, state and local elections, municipalities in California, Maryland and Vermont and Washington, allow non -citizens to vote in local elections.
The Save Act would amend the National Act on registration of voters of 1993 (NVRA)-also called the “automotive voters”-to require US citizenship documentation before registering to vote in federal elections and ensuring that states were removed by people who were not citizens from their fate of voters.
