In an interview aired Sunday, Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said Democrats “rule by majority” in the House of Representatives, even with nominal Republican control.
Jeffries noted that Democrats delivered more than twice that amount votes than Republicans in passing HR8035The Act on additional funds for the security of Ukraine in April during the period interview with CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell on “60 Minutes.” During the interview, Jeffries boasted about Democrats’ success in the GOP-controlled chamber, saying Democrats were “getting things done.”

“Even though we are in the minority, we have actually governed as if we were the majority because we still provide the majority votes necessary to get things done,” he said. “These are just facts.”
“It’s a difficult situation on the other side of the aisle because many of my Republican colleagues are more interested in creating chaos, dysfunction and extremism,” Jeffries said.
Jeffries also explained his reasons for defending House Speaker Mike Johnson against a vacancy motion that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia plans to call for a vote.
“Traditionally our view would be, ‘Let the other side solve their own problem,'” Jeffries told O’Donnell. “But when this mess begins to impact our ability to do our jobs on behalf of the American people, then the responsible thing for us to do is make it clear that we will not allow extremists to throw Congress and the country into chaos.”
Initially Greene filed motion on March 22, shortly before the House of Representatives passed a $1.2 trillion spending bill to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year by a vote of 286 to 134 vote.
