Donald Trump revealed how long he would be willing to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives if elected

Rebecca and Sarah addressed this issue last night. The needle is moving toward Donald Trump’s candidacy for Speaker of the House of Representatives. Enough talk about the former president storming into the Capitol next week. I’m not sure this will lend a hand those trying to keep chaos to a minimum.

Moreover, before his visit, Trump already supported the candidacy of Congressman Jim Jordan (R-OH) for Speaker of the House of Representatives. This does not mean, however, that his name will not be announced, and the dynamics are apparently real (via NY Post Office):

Several Republican members of Congress support efforts to elect former President Donald Trump as House speaker next week, according to a Republican lawmaker.

“I have been contacted by many members of Congress wanting to support and make speeches regarding the nomination of Donald J. Trump as Speaker of the House of Representatives,” Republican Troy Nehls (Texas) wrote on Twitter on Thursday.

“Next week is going to be HUGE,” he teased.

Nehls, 55, was one of the first House members to publicly express his support for Trump’s speaker position, pledging to nominate the 77-year-old former president for the job just hours after Republican Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced his nomination for this position. was ousted as Speaker in a historic vote on Tuesday.

Nehls was not among the eight Republicans who voted to strip McCarthy of his speakership.

During the 2022 term, Trump stated that he was not interested in serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives. Now he has provided a timeline for how long he will serve if elected. There are, of course, no strenuous dates, but it would serve for a low period (via CNN):

Former President Donald Trump said Thursday he would be open to serving as House speaker for a “short period” if necessary until Republican lawmakers choose a candidate who wins enough votes to become their leader.

However, a source close to Trump told CNN on Thursday that the former president has privately told those around him that he wants to support Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio for speaker and believes he is the best person for the job. Separately, a source who discussed the speaker’s race with Trump said he is expected to endorse Jordan in the near future.

A source close to Trump said the former president would not go to the Capitol. He was considering visiting to talk to Republicans in the coming days as they choose a modern speaker, a source familiar with the discussions told CNN earlier in the day.

And then what? It comes out and we have to do it all again. I think he even knows he won’t get 218. No one does, which is why some people, like our own Kurt Schlichter, think the whole thing is embarrassing. He’s running for president and faces a lot of trials, so it’s a nice media play for him. But when has Congress not been an embarrassment? We’ll see what happens, but I’m hopeful that the House GOP leadership reorganization will be accomplished quickly. I also know that won’t happen.
