In 1964, Malcolm X chastised blacks for their blind allegiance to the Democratic Party.
He said, “You put them first and they put you last – because you are an idiot. A political moron!… Whenever you support a political party that controls two-thirds of the government, and that party cannot keep its promise to you at election time, and you are stupid enough to continue to identify with that party – you are not only a fool, but also a traitor to his race.”
The Democratic Party supports “comprehensive immigration reform,” which is code for amnesty, which in turn means “keeping the borders porous so we can get a steady stream of new Democratic voters and cheap labor.”
Attorney Peter Kirsanow, one of eight members of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, argues that unskilled illegal aliens pose an economic threat to unskilled Americans, a disproportionate share of whom are black.
Last year, Kirsanow and two other committee members sent a letter to their congresswoman, Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. The letter advised Fudge and the rest of the caucus to oppose the Democrats’ proposed amnesty bill. “Illegal immigration,” the letter says, “has a disparate impact on African Americans because they are disproportionately represented in the low-skilled workforce. (…) The obvious question is whether there are enough low-skilled jobs for both African Americans and undocumented immigrants. The answer is no…Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants will only further harm African-American workers.”
What about urban crime caused by illegal aliens?
From October 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014, more than 57,000 unaccompanied alien children, or UAC, who entered the country illegally were detained. Many voluntarily surrender themselves to the authorities in order to obtain “permission” to remain in the country. Not only do they pose a threat to jobs, but we also have no idea how many of them intend to enter the country to commit crimes. According to Pew Research, approximately 85-90 percent of “children” apprehended at the border are teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17.
In 2008 in Los Angeles, 17-year-old academic and high school track and field athlete Jamiel Shaw was shot just three doors from his home as he walked home from the mall at 8:40 p.m. The student-athlete with a solid GPA has become a budding football star, named the Southern League Most Valuable Player, and has recently fielded calls from schools like Rutgers and Stanford. His killer? An illegal alien who had served time in prison for assault with a deadly weapon and had been released the day before by police who apparently never bothered to check his immigration status.
A few hours after his release, he killed Shaw. Shaw’s crime? He wears Spider-Man’s red backpack. The color red in the killer’s eyes meant that Shaw was a member of some rival gang. He wasn’t.
Just a few days ago, four people were arrested in connection with the beating death of a Chinese student attending USC, a school located in downtown Los Angeles. One of the four admitted that he entered the country illegally seven years ago. Whether, as in the case of Shaw’s killer, this illegal alien had a criminal record after entering the country, we do not yet know.
Just a few days ago in Maryland, six juvenile Latino men – illegal aliens according to the local ABC affiliate – were arrested for stabbing a black homeless man. Several of the alleged killers have admitted to being members of the notorious MS-13 gang.
Republicans should capitalize on Democratic adoption of “comprehensive immigration reform” by highlighting the threat illegal aliens pose to jobs. In 1994, a majority of black voters in California supported Proposition 187, which would have prevented illegal aliens from receiving public education and taxpayer-funded medical services. Opponents challenged the proposal in court, and the governor ultimately rejected the proposal. But it passed not only with a majority of white voters, but also with a majority of Asian and black voters.
The GOP has a lot to say in favor of the Black vote. To consider:
Black voters support voter photo ID, even though Attorney General Eric Holder has condemned such laws as “racist.” Some polls show Black support for voter ID at over 70 percent.
While Obama pursues “economic justice,” Black Democrats like Republican Maxine Waters of California have called the Black unemployment rate “unreasonable.”
Polls show inner-city parents want vouchers so they can opt out of underperforming government schools. Likewise Republicans.
Republicans support securing our borders before they discuss legalizing the estimated 10-12 million illegal immigrants currently here. Recent polls show that Republicans have identified “stopping the flow of illegal immigrants” as their most vital legislative issue.
In 1964, blacks voted 80% Democrat. Fifty years later, it’s 95 percent. What would Malcolm say?
