Democrats fundraise after El Paso, Dayton shootings…

Democrats blame President Trump’s rhetoric for influencing the El Paso shooter and the anti-immigrant manifesto he wrote before Saturday’s massacre. But they have no problem raising funds for the tragedy, as well as for Sunday morning’s shooting in Dayton, Ohio.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) said she was “heartbroken” over the shooting that left 31 people dead, then asked for money to support Senators Doug Jones (D-AL) and Tina Smith (D-MN) in their Senate campaigns.

Yesterday we woke up to our second mass shooting in just a few days. I am heartbroken for El Paso and Dayton and all the families who have just suffered an unimaginable loss.

We need common sense gun reform — Now, before the next mass shooting, to stop the everyday gun violence on our streets and make sure our families and loved ones are protected.

Yet Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are blocking legislation that could lend a hand combat this epidemic.

We flipped the House in the last election. And in February, the Democratic-led House passed bipartisan legislation that would have a significant impact on this crisis.

But five months after passing the House of Representatives and more than six and a half years after Sandy Hook, this bill is still on Mitch McConnell’s desk. It’s inexcusable.

It is clear that Republicans do not have the courage to do something about this crisis. We cannot wait for them to act — because they will not. If we are to address the epidemic of gun violence in our country, we must take back the Senate in 2020.

I will fight with all my might to ensure Democrats win every election in 2020 — but if we want to defeat Republicans and the gun lobby, it will take a grassroots movement.

Will you chip in today to lend a hand Democrats take back the Senate? Your donation will be split between funds that go to the final Democratic Senate candidates in 23 races and Senators Doug Jones and Tina Smith.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) asked supporters to split contributions between former Rep. Gabby Giffords (D-AZ) PAC, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Giffords was injured in a 2011 mass shooting in Tucson.

The DNC itself sent an email requesting funds, signed by Giffords and containing the urgent message that they “cannot afford” to wait another day to pass gun control legislation.

We cannot afford to wait another day, or another massacre in our country, for lawmakers to address this issue. Yet the defenders of the status quo – the gun lobby and any politician paid to defend it – will tell you that such horrific acts of violence are beyond our control.

I tell you today that nothing could be further from the truth. Every day we fail to act, we choose this fate. Every day politicians fail to see and act on this crisis, they allow our gun violence crisis to claim more lives.

And if Congress – specifically Mitch McConnell and Republicans in the United States Senate – will not act, then we will have to act to replace them. Because if we don’t act, shootings like this threaten to claim even more lives and destroy even more communities.

I ask you to have the courage to act today. For every man, woman and child whose life has been cut low by the epidemic of gun violence in our country.

Split your $10 donation between my gun violence prevention organization, Giffords PAC, and the Democratic National Committee today. Together, we have the power to prevent gun violence and save lives.

These fundraising emails are in needy taste. But the media is more focused on how Trump accidentally said “Toledo” instead of Dayton in his White House speech this morning, ignoring his proposals to prevent gun violence and his clear condemnation of white supremacy.

Thirty-one people have already died in this weekend’s massacres. another victim died on Monday as a result of their injuries.
