Democrat-run sanctuary city is quietly sending illegal immigrants to the Red State

by Katelynn Richardson

The self-proclaimed sanctuary city of Denver, Colorado, is quietly paying illegal immigrants to travel to Utah, according to Republican Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox.

Without the consent or prior knowledge of local officials, Denver is paying to transfer migrants to other places, including Utah, where about 2,000 people have been sent, 2KUTV News reported Thursday. Helmsman he said Friday said the practice is “unacceptable” and stems from the Biden administration’s immigration policies.

“We recently learned that the Democratic mayor of Denver is sending illegal immigrants to Utah without proper notice or consent,” Utah Republican Gov. Spencer J. Cox wrote Friday in X. “This is completely unacceptable and a continuation of the Biden administration’s failed catch-and-release policy.”

Cox wrote that Utah’s resources “are completely depleted.” His office he said Fox 13 News learned on May 13 that the city was sending migrants.

“All 50 states, including Utah, are now border states due to the failed immigration policies of President Biden and Congress,” Cox continued. “We once again call on the Biden administration and Congress to address this crisis.”

Denver city government he said Axios Friday the responsibility rests with Texas.

“The vast majority of newcomers coming to Denver are traveling on chartered buses from Texas and had no intention of ever coming to Denver,” Jordan Fuja, a spokesman for Democratic Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, told Axios. “That’s why part of our business is to purchase tickets for new arrivals to get to the location of their choice.”

The city’s mayor’s office told 2KUTV News that government officials in Salt Lake City, Utah, were also not notified before the migrants arrived.

“I have expressed my dissatisfaction myself,” Andrew Roberts, chief of staff to Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, told the agency.

Denver’s mayor and Utah’s governor’s offices did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
