Conservatives won victory in Italy on Sunday and their charismatic leader, Giorgia Melonibecomes Italy’s first female prime minister. Earlier this year, she declared in perfect English that “the only way to rebel is to be conservative.”
“Our individual freedoms are under attack, our rights are under attack, our national sovereignty is under attack,” she declared. “The well-being and welfare of our families are under attack, our children’s education is under attack.”
Although her party won only 4.4% of the vote in Italy’s last election in 2018, Meloni just led the Brothers of Italy to a landslide victory with her platform of “God, homeland and family.” The party has been called “far-right” for taking a forceful stance against immigration and for an economic program that supports families with children.
Giorgia Meloni is as direct as Donald Trump and similar to American conservative women such as Marjorie Taylor Greene AND Lake KariUnlike Republicans who immediately flee to the center when conservatives elect them, Meloni boldly declared after her election that “this is a starting point, not a finish line, we have to prove ourselves starting tomorrow.”
Trump adviser Steve Bannon is one of Meloni’s biggest fans, as Bannon saw her potential to take over years ago. Raised by a single mother in a rugged part of Rome, Meloni was inspired by “The Lord of the Rings,” J. R. R. Tolkien’s Christian fantasy novel, and the writings of English Christian essayist G. K. Chesterton.
In less than 40 days, parliamentary elections here will show how far the United States will move to the right, as Europe has. As in Italy, inflation here has been near 10%, and last week the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by another 75 basis points.
Interest rate spikes preceded the 1980 and 2008 elections, and the incumbent party was crushed by landslide election victories. This year, polls show Republicans retaking the House, while recent trends suggest they could retake the Senate.
Most notably in Nevada, long associated with the machine politics of the slow Sen. Harry Reid, Republican challenger Adam Laxalt has opened up a lead over the Democratic incumbent. As national Democrats abandon working-class Latinos to attract college-educated women, Laxalt is winning manual workers who make Las Vegas run.
Laxalt is running challenging against Biden’s open border and it’s causing a backlash with Nevada voters, including Latinos. “Joe Biden and the Democrats have border security has been dismantled, leading to a crisis of human trafficking, crime and deadly opioids“, says Laxalt’s latest TV ad.
In the ad, his opponent falsely claims that, “First of all, the border is not open,” while Vice President Kamala Harris absurdly declares that, “Our border is secure.”
Nevada has never been a bastion of conservatism, and Republicans have struggled there in recent years. But a populist message against illegal immigration and other liberal scourges could unseat the entrenched Democratic senator in the Silver State.
As in most of our country, Water shortages worsen in Nevada without any viable plan to overcome it. As Nevada’s attorney general, Laxalt joined other Western states in a lawsuit that successfully challenged a federal rule that would have prevented residents from drawing water from their own private properties.
Laxalt is running against anti-energy positions his opponent, who supports bogus green energy laws that can’t keep air conditioning running in tourist hotels on the famed Las Vegas Strip. Nevada was the fourth-best state in the country last year for fewest power outages (West Virginia had the best), while neighboring California was the third-worst as radical environmentalists ruin the state.
In Pennsylvania, Dr. Oz Endorsed by Trump is racing ahead and narrowing the lead of left-wing Democrat John Fetterman, who had a stroke earlier this year but refuses to release his medical records, as Dr. Oz did. Fetterman had been avoiding a debate with Dr. Oz but finally agreed to a last-minute debate in slow October after many Democrats cast their votes in early voting.
Republicans win most of Pennsylvania’s counties, but the Democratic political machine in Philadelphia often wins more votes than expected. Republican legislators in Pennsylvania have failed to end voter fraud, making Dr. Oz’s job harder than it should be.
The energy issue is increasing Republican Senate candidate JD Vance in neighboring Ohiowhich should be good for Dr. Oz. Fetterman once promised to ban fracking, on which Pennsylvania’s economy depends, but he’s backtracking.
Now Fetterman campaigns for federal pro-marijuana legislation, even though most states ban it. As a highly regarded physician, Dr. Oz can educate the public about how harmful it would be.
