A poll released Thursday by The Wall Street Journal found that former President Donald Trump’s support among Black men in battleground states has more than doubled the same group’s support among Black men in the 2020 election.
Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is long overdue wanted Down gain support among black voters, traditionally Democratic-leaning demographic, including touting his achievements on economic and criminal justice reform while in office. A recent poll estimated that 30 percent of black men in seven battleground states – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – “definitely or probably” plan to vote for Trump in the November election, an escalate of 18 percent compared to his nationwide performance among this demographic in 2020, where he won 12 percent of their votes, The Journal reported.
Trump’s support among Black women also increased less, to 11 percent in the current poll from 6 percent in 2020, according to the Journal. Among college-educated Black voters, support for Trump rose 10 percentage points to 18 percent today from 8 percent in 2020, while support among Black voters without a college degree rose 12 percentage points to 21 percent.

“[President Joe] “Biden is further away from Democrats than we have seen in the past,” said Michael Bocian, one of the pollsters who conducted the poll for The Journal. “I think getting more Black people back is going to be key for him.”
Trump is ahead of Biden by an average of 0.2 percentage points nationwide, According to to RealClearPolitics. After including third-party candidates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West and Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Trump’s lead increases to 1.9 percentage points on average.
Trump also leads Biden in polls of newborn voters aged 18-35, According to to Politico, which represents a major change from the last election, when Biden won this voting bloc.
The poll was conducted March 17-24, 2024 and included 218 to 354 registered voters. The margin of error ranged from 5.2 to 6.6 percentage points.
The Trump and Biden presidential campaigns did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
