I’ve read some chatter, mostly from Republicans, that Democrats might replace Joe Biden in the 2024 election. Let’s face it, it won’t happen. As things currently stand (more on caveats later), Biden will be the Democratic nominee. The sun will rise in the east tomorrow and Biden will be the candidate in 2024. These are absolutes, and I’m more certain of the latter than the former. I’ll just waste this one sentence on Marianne Williamson; no chance. Biden’s absence only happens because the media needs something to talk about and experts want something to write about. But I’m in Thailand and I’m not trying to sell anything other than three completely unrelated books. Biden on the 24th
And here’s why:
1. A state-of-the-art American political party does not replace a sitting president if he wants to run for a second term (and he always does). Period. It doesn’t matter how incompetent he was, if that’s what he wants, he’ll get nominated for a second term. His power and influence are too mighty. Two examples.
In 1980, Jimmy Carter was as inept as Biden had ever been. There was talk of Teddy Kennedy’s challenge to Carter. And Kennedy (Chappaquiddick notwithstanding) was far more popular than any potential Democratic challenger to Biden today. Early on, someone asked Carter if Kennedy was running for the nomination. Carter’s response was, “If he tries, I’ll kick his ass.” An aide tried to soften Carter’s words a bit, but the President actually replied that he meant exactly what he said: “I’ll kick his ass.” Carter was renominated.
Pat Buchanan challenged George Bush in 1992 for the Republican nomination. Many Republicans, mostly Reaganites, were very disappointed with George’s “read my lips” broken promises and frail, inept performance as president after the Gulf War. The closest Buchanan came was 38% of the vote in the New Hampshire primary. Bush easily won renomination and, of course, easily lost the presidency to the unproven, unknown governor of Arkansas.
You don’t remove a sitting President from office, no matter how bad he is. It’s not done.
2. Why would Democrats abandon Biden? He gave them everything they want. He raised taxes. He is waging a useless war in Ukraine that is harming America. There was high inflation and rising interest rates. He certainly worked with climate cultists trying to destroy the fossil fuel industry. He is 100% supporter of abortion, transgenderism and child mutilation. The southern border is wide open, admitting millions of future Democratic voters. The American military is becoming a joke (it’s not the fault of rank-and-file employees). What did he do to be criticized by the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN or MSNBC? So he didn’t go to East Palestine; so what? Ohio is a Republican state, so there is no point in wasting your time there. He actually went to Ukraine and this is much more significant to the Democrats.
What has Biden done that makes the Democratic Party WANT to replace him? At every step, he calmed down the far-left, radical wing of the party – the only one that still exists. They won’t risk nominating someone else who could spoil things. They get exactly what they want.
3. They… um… won the 2020 election with him, so why wouldn’t they win the 2024 election too? Especially since Republicans are doing absolutely nothing to make sure next year’s election is more secure and CANNOT be stolen. Whether they intend to do so or not, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Ronna McDaniel, Paul Ryan and all the other RINOs give the impression that they would rather see Biden re-elected than Trump win. And this may also be their attitude towards Ron DeSantis, who is probably too conservative and pro-American for Mitch and the RINO gang.
If they could get establishment Republicans like Nikki Haley at the top of the ticket, it might lift Mitch out of the coffin. Otherwise, McConnell and McDaniel wouldn’t care whether Democrats steal the presidency again next year. If they care, why don’t they do something to protect the voting process? They are not. Because they would rather have Biden – one of their own – than an outsider like Trump or DeSantis. Democrats know Mitch is elated with Biden. If the Democratic establishment in Washington wants Biden and if the Republican establishment in Washington wants Biden, then Biden will be there. With the re-election of Ronna McDaniel as RNC chairwoman, we saw exactly what the Washington Republican establishment thinks about the desires of its base. Do you think the Washington Democratic Party establishment cares more about what its peasant class might want?
Biden will be the Democratic nominee. Game, set and match. Only two things can disrupt this. First, if Biden does indeed have a grave, grave health crisis that prevents him from running, then they will undoubtedly have to replace him. Or second, if some major Covid-19-type disaster were to hit the country and trigger a massive public backlash against Biden, Democrats might then consider someone else. But that’s why I wrote in the first paragraph: “things are as they are now.” Unless Biden’s health becomes much worse than it is now, and unless the state of the country is demonstrably more dire than it is now, there is absolutely no way Biden will be rejected as the Democratic nominee in 2024. No way.
