We mentioned Joe’s strange tendency to share embellished stories and complete fabrications, even when they have been discredited or debunked. He often interrupts these stories with comments like ‘This is not a joke’ Or ‘swear by God’ Or – I’m grave. He did so twice during his recent speech in Wisconsin, to which he flew directly over East Palestine, Ohio, a community he never visited after a devastating train derailment. He was also recently accused by mother of Gold Star again mischaracterizing the circumstances of his eldest son’s death, which he did repeatedly (he also lied about the details of the accident that killed his first wife and daughter). Throughout his adult life, Joe Biden has done this type of thing many times, in both gigantic and miniature ways. It’s pathological.
During his visit to Hawaii yesterday, which he managed to squeeze through after the “no comment” slip-up, and among various holidays –Biden brought back memories loved ones he had lost, and then uncorked a version of the anecdote he had told earlier. In fact, we even mentioned it in this post. Flashback: :
President Biden said last week that his house burned down and his wife, Jill Biden, was inside… Speaking on a bridge in New Hampshire on Tuesday about his bipartisan infrastructure plan, Biden said: “Without that bridge, as I said earlier , it would be a 10-10 mile detour to get to the other side. And I know, after the house my wife was in burned down — came out safely, God willing — that much of it burned, I can say: 10 minutes makes a hell of a difference.” Biden recalled this story earlier, saying in 2013 that a fire “destroyed much of” his New Hampshire home. However, a 2004 Associated Press report, archived by LexisNexis, said lightning struck the Biden home and started “a little fire in the kitchen.” The report states that firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes and that they were able to prevent the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen.
This version has been improved slightly, but still seems rather exaggerated:
Biden tells Maui fire victims, “I don’t want to compare hardships, but…” and then tells a made-up story about losing their home in a fire.
According to a 2004 AP report, it was a “miniature fire… contained in the kitchen” that was “contained in 20 minutes.” pic.twitter.com/DNY0Tyatg7

This is not a joke, He says. Tell me. Did he “almost lose” his wife, car and cat in a fire that engulfed the kitchen? Was he there to witness the firefighters battling the blaze or was he in Washington and appearing on the show Meet the press? Given the ease and frequency with which he makes things up (a habit that long predates the cognitive problems associated with his advanced age), it’s hard to tell which “memories” are real when Joe Biden tells them. With at least 850 people still missing on Maui, many of them presumed dead, Biden finally showed up after a separate vacation in beach and mountains (holidays during the crisis it’s kind of his thing).
As others have noted, you can’t survive Hurricane Katrina and not remember how President Bush was pilloried for flying over the floodwaters and looking out the window of Air Force One. It was callous and cruel, as we were told by the hackers, who rushed to place as much blame as possible on Bush while largely absolving the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans, Democrats, of course. How would the media react if Bush, while people were suffering, went straight to the beach and “made no comment” when asked about the rising death toll? They would be screaming bloody murder. Ron DeSantis is undoubtedly right about this:
DeSantis on Maui: “If we had a Republican president who, in the midst of these fires and their aftermath, decided… To sit on the beach, what would the media say? They would be screaming it’s bloody murder!” pic.twitter.com/ej01eU3oHn

When it comes to the “news” media, there are completely different rules for Republicans and Democrats, and everyone knows it. As the national election cycle begins, the gap becomes even greater. We discussed the president’s very brief visit to Maui yesterday’s panelduring which Bret Baier noted the relative lack of media attention to Biden’s reaction:

Besides – is this… what it looks like?
He may be praying, but if he has done it once or twice in class or at church, it looks like a sleep disorder https://t.co/6eWglkuyRa
