Beto O’Rourke’s Gun Confiscation Has Another Fan: Wisconsin Governor’s Office

Well, Scott Walker’s days of running the country are long gone. That’s unfortunate.

Former Democratic congressman Beto O’Rourke, real name Robert Francis, has gone nuclear on gun control. He wants to completely confiscate firearms, especially so-called assault weapons. Why? Well, it looks scary to liberals. That’s it. He wants to confiscate the private property of law-abiding Americans. It’s illegal. It’s not going to happen at the federal level anytime soon, because a) Bob won’t be president, much less the Democratic candidate in 2020, and b) it’s a lost cause. But it may be that anti-gun policies that are just as shoddy will be enacted at the state level, where anti-gun activists are focusing their efforts and getting results.

In Wisconsin, Democratic Gov. Tony Evers is considering a mandatory buyback of AR-15 rifles in the state, which is confiscation. Australia did that. If people didn’t turn in their guns, they were charged with criminal offenses (via ABC 27 WKOW):

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers says he would consider a mandatory buyback of assault weapons.

Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke pushed for mandatory stock buybacks during the campaign. Republicans rejected the idea.

Asked whether he supported mandatory stock buybacks during a news conference Thursday to introduce the red flag bill, Evers said he would consider the idea. He did not elaborate, saying he was focused on trying to pass the red flag bill and a universal background check bill that Democrats introduced last month.

The measures come in the wake of mass shootings in Texas and Ohio. The proposals have virtually no chance of passing the Republican-controlled Legislature. The Wisconsin GOP has said restricting access to guns won’t stop mass shootings and that mental health should be the focus instead.

The good news is that the Wisconsin legislature is Republican, so that should mean this proposal is dead. As for the red flag law and expanded background checks in Madison, those should be dead as well, although you’d never know about the gentle GOP sect we have that believes neither of these proposals will be abused by the left to confiscate guns and lay the groundwork for a gun registry in the future — the latter of which would also be used to take people’s guns away.
